I'm for ATGATT, and always have been in favour of applicable protection to the activity. We need threads and recommendations like this to emphasise the need for proper gear. Although naturally we would rather you didn't crash in the first place to prove it... As was said, broken ribs, in fact broken bones all, hurt! DAMHIK
The old addage buy the best gear yoy can afford holds true.

Cheap leathers are fine and do the trick hell any gear is better than none.

But helmets wise buy the best lid you can dont scrimp.

Thus the rsx which was a 1k helmet now on run kut at 370 odd is great value. And better than some comparable 600 odd dollar helmets.

Yeah i still broke a few ribs but i can tell you i would have done a helluva lot more damage if i didnt have good gear.

My ankle is and example i broke it in two places in the upper joint area and one fracture in the lower.... The reason i dobt have pins holding it together is the boot kept everything aligned so well they managed to just put a cast on and keep evwrything in a healing position without pins.

If i had simple ankle high boots on my ankle would have ragdolled and id have a steel harness with pins holding it all together and possible ligament damage.

BUGGAAH ... at least you've come out of that reasonably ok ... you'll just be a wee bit sore for a while ... (and partaking of pussy ... the other kind .. will be a bit of a hassle with broken ribs ...)

And the insurance company has been pretty good too ...

    Just learnt something.

Bike insurance didnt cover my gear because i didnt ask for that cover.

But... My home and contents insurance said they cover it.

So looks like i will be getting at least some of my gear back.

Had to get a quote to replace my gear but was worth it for them to replace it.

ACC used to cover replacement gear but it's been decades since I found out about it. They wouldn't tell you about your eligibility and I discovered mine exactly one year & two days after my accident, the policy then had a one year claim period. Check it out.

I reckon a cat might be small enough to ride through under power. It's not like trying to ride through a sheep, innit?

    Ring ACC?

Mr Cat wouldn't have wedged his swede between the radiator & cylinder head if you were on the back wheel at the time...
