    Err, pies...

"McDonald's has announced a partial return of Kiwi favourite Georgie Pie.Georgie Pie pies will be sold in 11 McDonald's stores in Auckland and the Waikato from June this year.
The stores will stock steak mince and cheese pies only, in a move the company says will "test" public reaction.
"It still seems we have a great appetite for a brand," McDonald's managing director Patrick Wilson says.

Pies will be priced at $4.50 – a large hike from the once-popular $1 pie menu......"

$1 in the 1990s, $4.50 in 2013. Inflation. But only available in Squakland.

Haven't spent money in McDonalds since 1990, the availability of pies isn't going to change that.

Some of the Dj's at work got to go to the "release" and brought back some samples... they think its just like the original (although they are all pretty much teenagers who I doubt have ever eaten a proper georgie pie, pie, but hey..)

Can we expect a new range of wacky McDonalds characters?
Hamburglar doesn't seem right for pies.

Crusty Codger - a grumpy old man who's always chasing pesky pie-munching kids off his front lawn.
Gravy Robber - a mournful-looking and pale Dickensian character, looks like an extra from The Munsters, carries a shovel, sneaks out at night and returns with old pies wrapped in shrouds on the back of a hand-drawn cart.
Mincer - a limp-wristed flamboyant character who speaks with a lisp and is always trying to suggest interior decorating tips with pies.

Hmmm I'm not expecting much success.

The whole bring back Georgie Pie bandwagon is all based on nostalgic childhood memories. The pies while acceptable back in the 1980's are totally outdated by todays standard. You can walk into any servo, dairy, bakery and get a much better pie these days for a lot less. Also the culinary appreciation of your typical kid/teenager is easily fooled so what you may remember as being the yummiest thing you've ever tasted isn't quite as yummy as an adult.

I'm a big Georgie Pie fan but came to this conclusion a few years ago after trying GP pies at the short-lived Kelston GP store. They did nothing for me, although the pies on sale were more like the $2 large version. Hopefully these new pies will use the same original recipe/trays as the old $1 pies. If McDonalds tries to serve up some random pie with a Georgie Pie label slapped on it then the Georgie Pie comeback will definately fail.

It's a bit like the whole bring back Buck thing.

I loved GP, $5 got you 2 small pies large fries and a coke, and Mcshit bought them out and closed them down to kill off the competition.

Now they say they have brought it back, bollocks Mcshit is selling pies because they heard Pie face is coming over from Aussie.

$1.00 in 1990 equals $1.67 in 2013, according to Reserve Bank figures.
