The Doors was such an awesome band. I love the way he played Light My Fire and Riders on The Storm.

That's sad to hear.

The Doors were a huge influence on me in my teens.

We played Riders on the Storm at my Dad's funeral in 1991. He was an avid fan of them also.
It will always have that connection with me.

Yeah ... A great band ... but death comes for all of us at some time ... its been something like 42 years since Jim Morrison died .. there will be people reading this who were not born then .. that's a freaky thought ...

True,..but the music lives on.

Ghost Song is really cool,..especially when you consider that it was recorded after JM died.

That makes me more sad than it perhaps should. I went through a huge Doors fandom stage at one point. Also: 74???!??! Hell, how old am I then? (oh wait.... old)

Fun fact: NZ's own Graham Brazier was offered a gig doing vox for Manzarek, Kreiger Dinsmore who I think still called themselves the Doors at that point. 80's it was.

Ray Manzarek was in the army at one point, IIRC played in a band.

Here's my favourite Doors song:

though this song is less about the kbs than Kreiger's bitchin' riff

the DVD of the Hollywood Bowl concerts (albums released as Doors ALIVE! or something.) are incredible. Morrison in full flight in the tightest leather pants ever, and the band is fantastic.

It's sad that this story isn't true:

It is. But social media is dangerous either way.

Awesome player - he also played base on the keyboard (so playing two instruments at a time if you like)... Such a great band.

They were over rated, it was only because of the Movie in 1991 that there music became 'popular'. Heard nothing of there music for the 20 years prior...Radio Hauraki probably but that's about it.
And even then it was always either Fire or Riders in the Storm.

Even Jim Morrison was not a total believer in the Doors music, he didn't even stick around to finish the last album, he gave them the fingers and fucked off to France.

Whether he was or not doesn't make them over rated mate. The Doors left a fucking massive footprint in the world of music.
