Dude stabs some innocent people in their own home. Steals shit from them and goes on a high speed road trip. Gets followed by cops who want to stop him. He fires pot shots at the cops.

At that point he became target practice, pure and simple. I am very grateful to our police tonight for getting a loose canon like that off the roads, and out of our communities, permanently. I really hope the cop that fired the fatal shot gets REALLY good support. Must be a horrible thing to have to do in the line of duty.

No doubt we will hear more about him in time to come. Already we hear he was discharged from the Army for behaviour issues. Sounds to me like this youngster, lets not forget he was only 20, was a problem child before this latest episode.

Still, sad for his mom though tonight.

This guy had army training, even if it wasn't much. Thank god no cops died.
The outcome could have been much worse.

Atleast it shows the northshore police are doing the job, instead of just pulling me over on the Albany highway or racing to save someones split latte which was split during a tragic nose to tail on Tristran Avenue. Well done NZ Police.

Perhaps the Army isn't the last chance to instil some discipline for guys like that. But maybe they could be. I'd like to see them given back some of the tools that used to work for such cases, before the world got all indignant about discipline.

I query that peoples automatically assume the police to be correct, my experience proves to the contrarywise.

When they finally managed to spike the tyres and he crashed into the wall, he started firing at the Police through the window, The Police fired back. Guess who won?

A bit of a worry that (if the TV news report was correct) until the spikes were deployed the stolen ute was able to outrun the Popo Commodores - are they really that gutless /worn out ?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Nah, the cops just crash them whenever they try to push on. See the cop car fail thread for pics

I'm not so sure I'd want to see guns becoming used as the first choice for getting someone to stop.

    America's no great role model.

Is this just for 'police' to do or can we all get in on the act ?

it's a worry when a pick up can outrun the Police. Must be a bit more to the story, surely.
