I think his point was that if the rail ppl don't get their $3.50 then the employees don't get paid. You don't seem to have an issue with that, so he was testing to see if would be empathetic to their plight by asking if you would mind working for nothing. It appears that it bunches up your panties a bit.
    Keep on chooglin'

Okly dokly. In which case I wouldn't mind working for nothing... however my family would mind me working for nothing and would be adversely affected should I choose to live that way under the current economic model. I don't wear panties for that specific reason.

But to answer the point, meh, people have been laid off where company's are making profits and still losing their jobs. Why should I give a shit?

The funniest thing I have seen for a while is an Auckland Mayoral campaign billboard. It is for john minto and the billboard slogan is "FREE & REGULAR PUBLIC TRANSPORT".

Where this moron would get the money to make it all free... taxpayer's wallets perhaps?

Also, he is standing for the Mana Party.

    I laughed. Lots.

Where does the money to manage the rail network come from if not from the taxpayer's wallet? Where would the money, that these girls chose not to spend, have come from if not from taxpayer's wallets? If they had have been doley's, where would the money that they had used come from to pay for the ticket if not from the taxpayer's wallet?

Tis like anything else, like access to education, access to healthcare, access to infrastructure etc... it's all paid for by the taxpayer even though not all of us consistently make use of the service. Free public transport is just an extension of that?

You may note that there is always a contibution from the user. Education? You will see that the taxpayer picks up 75% of the bill and the student 25%.

If you had used the Moscow underground trains, back in the pre-glasnost Soviet era, you would have noticed a fee to pay to ride the Metro. Even the communist system was not "free for all" as moron minto suggests.

C'mon no one with 1/2 a brain thinks Communism/Socialism has any chance of working. Look at all previous attempts & you end up with some of the worst oppression of the common people.

Anyways Mashman, since I have inherited the world & its resources to do what I like with, I think I should use you for compost, I thought of it first & its only fair, I'm entitled. And my Cat who is also joint owner of the earth is looking forward to making a little scrape in said compost to leave a little brown package, so you won't have been sacrificed for nothing.

Its like the cycle of life

    We plant the seeds
    Nature Grows the seeds
    We eat the seeds.

. . .except this would be a poo tree, so the analogy falls a little flat, but you have to work with wot ya got.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

Now murder... Whatever happened to, I'm coming around to your place, I'm gonna rape you, then your wife and kids and shoot jizz all over your cat so that everytime it licks itself it tastes me and every time it licks your face it'll be as though I'd saved a little dribble for you?

Come on man, put a little imagination into it. Compost. Fucksake.

Eventually there's a contribution from the user surely... unless your kids clean the car and then use the money to pay their school fees?

Who's trying to be a communist? If it's a public service/utility/good, then everyone should pay towards it, else I see no reason why any money I earn should go to propping up the healthcare system in Auckland, or for roading, or for trains etc...

For some reason I doubt that that's true... but thanks for the compliment, for without manure roses and magic mushies wouldn't grow.

    It's easy to make promises like that if you;

A Have minimal chance of getting elected

B Even if you are elected you will be in a minority and such promises will always be voted out by the majority.

'Cept according the the train crew I play paintball with on occasion, the trains would lose ALOT less moneys if passenger trains were free; reason they charge is crowd control (bit redundant in thinking nowadays if you ask me) & as job creation
