40Kph over the limit is an automatic 30 day suspension, and you get to talk to a judge.

I think it should be lower in 50k zones though. Not just to be an arsehole, but 20k over should be the walking home speed I think.

I've never been pulled over in my life, I accepted the fine and was super nice to the cop about it, and when she asked why I was speeding I told her but acknowledged it was still no excuse and that I shouldn't have done that. She gave me my ticket, we had a laugh and they left. I have never had a need to know how much over the speed limit you get xyz result, why would I when nothing like this has happened to me before? and no, you don't need to have an understanding of demerits etc. to ride or drive on the road, only people who commit offences do. Oh and the cop wasn't a "cunt" she was nice as.

It's not demerit points that have you walking from above 40kph over the limit. It is deemed to be dangerous driving. I can concede that motorists might not need to know that I guess, unless it's in the road code of course.
