My lad has just had his (locked) bicycle stolen from outside Pioneer Pool.

Poor lad is quite upset, he paid for most of it himself, he's had it less than six months, and had customised it to suit.

The bike was a BMX style with custom green over white paint -easily recognised - but I dont expect we will see it again

Its probably best I don't get my hands on the perps, as a charge of Assault or GBH would be more than likely.
Sorry to hear about your sons bike, unfortunately this kind of shit happens all the time. When I was a kid I had 3 bikes stolen at various times in various places as well as one car about 10 years ago and my house has been robbed 3 times with them taking various amounts of stuff. The thieving pricks were never caught for any of it.

Have you got a pic of the bike, post it here. Maybe someone will see it.

dont worry, all the police are out on the road, so at least you can ride safely now that all those dangerous people have been given infringement notices.

And even if caught, the most the courts are going to give out is a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket :(

If we cant cut of their hands, at least bring back the stocks and let the public administer justice

Repeat offenders should have something of theirs stolen, like their balls or hand. That will teach them a lesson.

Ooooooor leave a bottle of methanol tainted vodka in the glove box or by your laptop (or other expensive items). Best $40 anti theft device you will ever buy. You will actually laugh when it gets stolen.

Yeah that actually would be awesome, or "coke" laced with cyanide.

Another thing that could work is what we did in South Africa. Kaffirs would keep stealing our porch lamp, so my old mans mate who was a sparky rigged it so when you touch it, you get a big shock. Literally. So one day, some kaffir came along and tried to steal it. The porch lamp never went missing again. Something similar could work on a vehicle.

But still, it fucking sucks how these thieves get more or less rewarded for their behaviour, and the general public aren't even allowed to defend our property with force. In SA we'd all be packing heat, so one could legally bust a cap in some niggas (or wiggas) ass if they're a threat, just like in the good old USA.

Better yet, try these: 2005 anti autotheft devices, or the 2003 version.

So far no progress on finding the car, although I fully expect to find it burned out somewhere in the next few days. There has been a story written up in the Herald

Still no word on the car but I have learned there were some items in the car with significant sentimental value and passports in amongst the things in the car. All of which I would imagine have been destroyed our sold by now which is disappointing but there have been quite a few generous offers including Willy and Tazz in this very thread and a very generous donation by Cockram Nissan in response to the article printed in todays Press.
So thank you to all who offered to help in any way, and please keep an eye out for the car, I'd still like a "chat" with those who stole it.

Also an article showed up on stuff today as well (here) some of those who comment there seem to be complete asses.

Was hoping you had posted that they've found the car and the bastards who stole it.

Were there no cameras in the area? I'm really liking Hayden's idea now...

Will keep my eyes open for the Bluebird up here, just in case.

There are really some uncaring idiots posting some of the comments on the Stuff article. Karma's a bitch, guys.

Unfortunately the car still hasn't been found and we've all given up hope of seeing the heirlooms that were in it at the time.

I am seriously considering the idea of tainted vodka, but where would I stash it on my bike?

I would be amazed if they were dumb enough to take it on the boat up north but if they did surely they would have been caught on camera somewhere.

The comments on the stuff article were quite stressful for my bro in law to read. But as you said karma may catch up to these people.

On the plus side Cockram Nissan, Harcourts and Miles Toyota all made generous offers of cash, discounts and loan cars and Stadium Cars has actually gifted them a car as well. The generosity of people and businesses in Christchurch has been amazing and more than canceled out the actions of the fucking prick that took the car in the first place. (although it'd still love to get my hands on him)

This thread is very upsetting ... please, "go to the police and report these crimes" Apparently that is all that is required and justice will be served!

I have been listening to that for 74 years, so it must be true!

Edit: Justice refered to is the bit beyond the police where the police always seem to get let down!
