If nobody else turns up we can go to your place and I will watch you working on it.

that would have been a big shock. I moved forward, just as well it was in gear, which it normally is.

I think it cost $2800 to be fixed after that one then a week after getting it back an old Indian guy killed it properly.

remember the car which pulled up just before we left Z, and what i said... maybe new car drivers should have a green flashing light for the first 5 years or foreign drivers could have orange ones and LED arrows on dash of rental vehicles. I usually stay well away from rental vehicles, seen some dangerous stuff from them

Stop sign. Sign written Holden introduced itself. Luckily they went for the sustained loss of traction. I managed to hold the Holden back with my DR350. Not without $3800 damage. But at least I was not thrown under the car currently occupying the intersection at speed.

    that gotta hurt.

I didn't get knocked, just lucky I planned ahead and left it gear (some instructors suggest put it I neutral)
scorpio better in gear - neutral can be tricky - not worth effort unless stopping and getting off

I see you have a bigger bike now-is that so you can stop trucks?

I was in gear but had nowhere to go. Car moving rapidly right to left occupying the only forward space. Given the confidence I now feel on the DR I might have tried to jump the curb. Not sure that would not have ended worse though.

the scorpio doesn't do curbs, I haven't done any offroad stuff yet... maybe when I grow up... want to do touring first

I bought the DR for economy reasons in 08. Promptly took it off road a few times.
Even after 15 years as a road rider, it made a learner out of me. It has made me smoother on the road, and better at controlling unexpected slides etc. I really need to find the money to rebuild the engine and do some more of roading.

After 40,000 kms my only regrets on the DR would be not off roading more and not getting a dirt bike for commuting sooner.
If I did not have so much motorway to cover daily I'd still be on the DR for commuting instead of selling the 'busa to buy the CB.

offroad bikes seem to need a lot of maintenance = $

The bike program is already on hold due to $.... till next month anyway

There is also more of the work you can do yourself and parts are cheaper.
Had I known that I would have a small windfall of 2k just after I sold the busa.
I would not have bought the CB and the same 2k would have gone on rebuild or over bore kit for about $500 a throttle cable and left me enough cash to upgrade my gear. And I could have kept the busa.

Still happy with how things played out, but in the long run this will be the more expensive option.
