You are 100% right I am not - a good politician (this is the theoretical definition of good, not the realistic definition) would be able to make policy that is fair and equitable to all cultures whilst also being good for the country.

To use an Analogy to highlight my point:

I don't need to be gay to support policy that removes some of the legal discrimination against the gay community.

Thank you for your cynicism - but if all the Maori (or chinese, or australian, or martian) politicians where amazing, whilst all the white politicians are like the ones we actually have - why would I shoot myself and the rest of NZ in the foot for the sake of having a white face in parliment?

I care about who is best for the job, not the colour of their skin, their preference in partner, their gender or whatever - I just care if they can do their job (which would be a step up from the current batch of Oxygen wasting overpaid MPs)
