Mangere bridge was windy. Ramarama straights were a tad scary. Spent most of thee straights reminding myself of all the little things you can do after the front wheel almost washed out from the wind.

Lean don't push on windward side.
    Knee out on windward side.
    Loosen grip on leeward side.
    Drop shoulder into the wind.
    Bring the revs up.
    Maintain a steady pace.

Something I like to remind myself if on days like today. If I had just left work and encountered the same weather I would have just dealt with it. The fear comes from the talking about the winds all day. Co workers and the press.
    This causes doubt.
    Doubt causes anticipation.
    Anticipation causes stress.
Stress causes you to ride stiffly.
Riding in a stiff rather than fluid manner causes all impacts from the weather to be amplified.

Meh, rode to work this morning feeling miserable and fluzy...twas grey and threatening. Come 5.30pm she was coming down in buckets! Murphys Law. Worked late tonight...made it home bout 8.15pm. Windy and a tad sodden but enjoyable trip home, no Oh Shiz moments like Spokey. Bit chilled now and already over going to work :-( would rather hole up with me sleeping bag and sip some lemon honey tea. Sorry if I missed peops at the watering hole, I just gapped it home to get warm. Really picked up once I put me ride in the garage. MY aint built for speed so holds up rather well in the wind but not if its blowing straight through the handle bars and hitting me direct. Think i'll be public transporting it tomorrow though.

Mostly consists of sitting in front of a computer. Doing stuff that puts people to sleep when I try to explain it.
Interrupted by trips to make coffee. Glorious excuse for exercise.
Being a news organisation every man and his dog stops by to talk to the IT/web guy who rides a bike about the tragedies that await him on out roads whenever unusual weather is about. Largely because although I leave later to avoid traffic rain or shine hail or sleet they know I will be riding.

Really? Seemed alright to me... Even lane split like usual with the heavy traffic and all. Just had to compensate for the stronger than normal wind...

Essential info for the newbies to SASS:
South Auckland Street Skills or SASS

WHAT: Learning and improving Riding Skills
    WHEN: Tuesday Nights
WHERE: Meet at Z (ex-Shell) Service Station, Cnr Great South Road and Taka St, TAKANINI (the one with a Burger King)
WHO: Riders new and old, and anyone getting back into Motorcycling (must be legal & hold a motorcycle license).
Weather and venue permitting - Heavy Rain may mean that we are watching DVDs. Showers are OK, look on the thread for more up-to-date information.
Depending on the number of riders and their experience levels, a short ride may be included to practice further skills. If there are enough riders, some nights can be split into two different groups.

    Some nights may include:
Practicing essential skills and techniques in a quiet carpark
On-the-road practice which may see you doing up to a 1hr - 1 1/2hr ride.

    WHY:
    - Practice essential skills for staying alive on the road.
    - Practical help with your riding.
    - Fun times with fellow riders, with great stories and discussions.
    - Build friendships, solicit advice and pick-up riding tips.

MEET at Z station Takanini -----------> before 6.55pm

    START ride -----------------------------> 7pm

FINISH ride at ex-Manukau City Council car park for slow-speed safety exercises -----> usually 8pm-8.15pm
(next to the new Manukau train station & opp. police station)

SOCIAL time @ BRONCOS after car park exercises -----------> 8.45pm-ish

Cost: Nil, nada, zip, zero, nothing... Just your time and attention.

Details of what will be happening each week will be posted on this thread. So kick the tires and light the fires... Let's ride, aSASSins!

    Disclaimer:
The SASS activity is intended to give any riders advice on their riding and to practice their skills in a safe and relaxed environment. The organisers of SASS are NOT responsible for any rider, their machines and/or any persons involved. All people attending SASS do so at their own risk.

Wind picked up a lot once traffic dispersed.

By 8 there were a few cars, vans and trucks making "unscheduled" lane changes.
