Just quoting you because my Ye Olde Nokia started to show signs of fossilisation and has been up graded. Not to an Apple, ugh, love em or hate em, nothing in between. If your an Apple fan it's for life. Not to a Samsung (as such) either, had an S3 and it was made of sugar glass but free.
No, I spent the princely sum of $250 for a No 1. $20 of that was track & trace. Bought from a Mr Yu Shung Wen & dispatched from an industrial estate near Beijing. I was a bit dubious, still am but less so. It's a Samsung S5 clone, to look at and use they are identical, even has the Samsung 2800 battery in it. 16 mega pixel main camera, heart rate monitor, same processor speed if not better etc. Bloody astonishing.
My only doubt now is durability but seeing as the real thing is so fragile I'm not that fussed, I can buy one a year & still be ahead.
I'm not a heavy data user and still have 80% battery after 2 days just texting & using the vid / camera which are astonishing, too.
Size wise, it's not big enough to be a telly but is easy to use with fat fingers. It is big enough & thin enough to make me feel it can be snapped if you lean against something hard when it's in your shirt pocket, gonna get a good case for it. Being broad & slim it's hard to pick up off a flat surface securely, again a case will help. Can't help feeling it will just pop out of my fingers one day. Overall, the size & slimness is very droppable.
Oh, huge plus. No firmware, zip, nada & memory expandable to 132gb allegedly.

Any hoo, my reason for interrupting a reasonable question thread. Have a good look around before you part with your pingers. Lots of excellent & cheaper phones available. Moto X from Motorola, Nokia 830, cheap knock offs, etc.

Apple are a little behind the times with these 'big phones' and the popularity and total brand loyalty is fast waining, no longer are they the techno leader more a case of playing catch up all the time. A little less time persuing legal challenges and more time inventing boys

Have had normal smart Samsung's for a while now and plan on getting the note 4 when they come out. I find my self doing more and more stuff on the phone and the bigger phone will make it a lot easier. Funnily enough I doont use my phone to 'phone' people very much nowadays.

Just another number tacked onto the same product really. Now the iAppleWatch, there's the innovation nobody asked for or needs but will see many open their wallets for.

Belief of course is that Apple has watched (hehe, a pun) everyone else, learnt from their mistakes and believe they are doing it right.

The one big thing... they are trying to replace a device already in existence, rather than carving out new ground (tablet, smartphone). How often do you charge a regular watch? How often will you need to charge the Apple watch? Big hurdle right there, and what real functionality will it provide over a regular watch. I stopped wearing a watch years ago (fark, would have been around 2007) because I was surrounded by them. Took a while for the watch tan to disappear but gone now.

Wearable tech will be the next frontier and all the big guys (plus startups) are rushing there now... once again tho, it looks like we'll be complaining about battery life for now...

Nah, they are trying to replace a device they have already replaced. Even trickier I reckon; I too stopped wearing a watch when I started carrying a cellphone everywhere.

I looked at stocking some smart watches but the only real advantage I liked was the changeable face (can be whatever you want on there pretty much) which wasn't really enough to light my fire on them.

Thinks like the fact you can adjust the volume of the music you're listening to WHEN THE PHONE IS 5CM AWAY FROM YOUR RESTED HAND IN YOUR POCKET are actual sales literature/points on these...nevermind that most headphones have the wee controllers for tracks and volume on them anyway.
Also sending and receiving texts on your watch...that still has to be coupled to your phone which is also on hand. Yeah nah

Wireless charging, up to and over a month on some of them in between.
Painless compared to a phone, but yeah, still nothing on a quartz movement.

Planned obsolescence at its finest. You can still buy new iPhone 3/4s. But, there are already apps that are only iOS 8+.which is not available to models still for sale.
I use an iPhone because it was free. When I spent my own money it was on an android. If I had to spend my own money again it would be on an android.

Stupid phone / Tapatalk, apologies in advance.

Would drive me nuts if I had to take my slab of a phone out of my pocket whenever I wanted to check the time. But I don't need one of these. Wish they'd do a proper watch version of the iPod Nano, that would do me.

And from what I've heard you'll have to charge your Apple watch daily, the only tricky bit they've done with that is using an induction (?) charger so it doesn't need a plug.

I'm waiting for the i-cock 1.0 to be released so I can txt friends or check messages while I have a pee or wank. It will fit comfortably around the shaft the only problem is I fear is one size may not fit all .........
