Bucket of the Month - May 2015 - Junkyard Dog
'Junkyard Dog' is the apt name that this classic mut has been adorned with.
A true 'bucket build' this is a bike created from the best parts that have come to hand.
The Page Family have built a bucket each, all based on Honda 2 Valve Singles. This one is raced by younger son Matt and he's currently using it to dominate the Motorad NZ B Grade. He is also currently holding the most points overall for the TSS Red Baron Motorcycles King of Kaitoke.
The frame is an XL100 but it's been given a lot more pep with a modified GL145 engine installed.
It now rolls on more road-race appropriate 17' alloys shod with racy modern radials.
It's suspension has been upgraded with some new rear shocks of 'something or other' and a front end from a TZR250.
Even though the Honda 2 Valve engine doesn't have the power of some of the other bikes on the track it still cuts some really good times with a good setup, light weight and excellent rider skills.
The big bars must help when it all gets out of shape as Matt has managed some really impressive controlled (?) slides through some of the corners.
Hopefully this post hasn't 'jinxed' him and he keeps up the winning streak for the final round.
The Final round for the 2015 series will be held at Wynn's Raceway, Kartsport Wellington on Sunday 17th of May. Spectator entry is free.
