Mates Q still does the hard yards on a regular basis with no problems.Just clicked over 90,000.Had an ex forestry HQ way back in the day bought it as a cruiser/work hack and to save some miles on the XYGS i had, just as well as it met a grisly end.

It's a Citroen, yuck. Here is one that's pretty rare, but there is one in NZ, I know because I drove it...just for a WoF.

True, it is a Citroen but what marks it out from the others?

The one you show is a SM - has a Maserati V6 engine.

There is one SM in NZ that used to belong to Mike Hailwood. Is that it Motu?

The Aussies could also be repaired with the sorts of basic equipment that could be found in any country town engineering/blacksmith shop.
This. A sturdy basic V8-engined platform that can be fixed by the average shade tree mechanic is worth any amount of Parnell-based / plug it into the computer cruisers. I still prefer my Detroit-engined motorcycles to the Porsche-designed V-Rod for that very reason; the V-Rod is a great boulevard platform but for long-distance rides in places with unpredictable access to sophisticated mechanical engineer, give me a bike I can at least attempt to fix at the side of the road, any day of the week.

I came across it in 1996, so long after Hailwood had departed. It was in Parnell, and the owner also had an E Type (I never got to drive that one) and a 2 door XJ6, which I did. He was probably well known in the right circles, and seemed pretty proud to be showing off his possessions to a lowly blue collar worker. I on the other hand was probably a bit smug knowing I had maybe been to a wild drug and booze fuelled party in his house in the '70's.

I have owned a garage since everything had a distributor & carburettor, now all I feel is pity for people that own such vehicles by choice.
I've worked on more E30 & E36 3 series BMW than all other types of car combined but a combination of the current owners & the archaic technology in them just give me the shits now.

    Retarded? - No, it's French...

Yes, wankel powered. Thought a nice connection to the Holden/Mazda...

Sorry, missed your post last night...

Absolutely - on both counts. I used to have an RX3 coupe back about 1972, loved it. Went everywhere at warp speed, sometimes sideways. Brilliant.

Some people said the rotaries were thirsty, but most other cars that could cruise at over 160kph were probably going to be even thirstier. My only complaint was the frequent need to purchase expensive platinum spark plugs.
