    If I didn't make the (previously defined and fairly assessed) grade, I didn't make the grade. Whether I was 1 mark or 10 marks down, doesn't matter.

    Suck it up, study harder, try again.

    And yes - been there and done that.

    Passing grades cannot be flexible.

    As long as the failing student was not personally identified, I don't see a problem.
