How's Georgie gonna go?
Wait, you took those photos?![]()
If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
When I saw the seagull incident I was hoping that was karma at work and that was the same seagull that ate Lorenzo's finger.
I'm a bit jealous of those pics cause all mine (including my avatar) were taken from the outside of the track.
Funny thing, well Australian thing really. During practice the crowd was several people deep all around the track but there was a stretch of a good hundred metres with nobody there at the start of the final turn. I looked around and couldn't see any signs so I started taking photos, all the while expecting to be told to move. When I got back to the Honda marquee I had a look at the track map. The area I had been standing was the "alcohol free zone".
Last time there was another grandstand at that spot.
There is a grey blur, and a green blur. I try to stay on the grey one. - Joey Dunlop
I have spent some time in your alcohol free zone without realising what it was.
We usually base ourselves on the other side of that marquee on the inside of the second to last corner - "Teams Viewing Area" (which is a whole lot less grand than it sounds).
Then, depending on the type of pass I've been able to scag, we starting exploring the outer limits - "lively" discussions with security often ensue...
Yup, even on the weekend they are looking for extras to help out. I spent a weekend on the outside of Siberia a few years ago. Got right under the podium after the race and could taste the Champagne in the air. The key is to keep your camera in your pocket, head down and look official. The pit lane security let us straight in and even apologized for having the gate shut haha.
If you are inerested hop onto motorcycling Australia's website and apply for next year. They provide free camping space and lunch, with a dinner BBQ and beers on most nights. The rest is up to you.
Flag and crash crews are separate teams, as are bike recovery. You get some choice as to where you work (previous experience at c;ub level etc helps). Turn 10 points at phillip Island got the most action when I was there. Although when Dani threw it away (in the southern loop I think) one of the crash crew guys got 3rd degree burns on his thumb and finger. Picked up a rogue brake pad off the track that was fairly warm. One of the boys even souvineered it for him, he passed it around while we had a beer one evening. It weighed almost nothing
The Paramedic chicks are on pointthat is until some of them Aussie girls start talking
Some snaps from my trip, I've put these up before but just in case you needed convincing for next year...
