Over the past few years, I've become the last New Zealander in my team at work. 95% Indian , a few Gooks and me. It sux, especially when all your work 'mates' speak in a language you don't understand. I'm voting for Winnie ( again ) not that it will do much good!

That's what you get when you work at a curry shop.

I was working in dorkland for eight weeks, earlier this year. All that was in the media had not prepared me for what I saw up there. Even the makeup of KB keyboard warriors will have changed over the last ten years, which may not be so transparent.

I work in Auckland with 'the media', and you wouldn't believe the bubble we work in.

You would think that the self labelled "globally aware", "socially enlightened" people amongst us would at least see that what happens to the general population of NZ (seeing as Auckland is really just a barometer for the rest of the country tbh), will soon happen to our jobs and incomes once global media organisations take, or outsource our jobs (internet anyone?).

But at least we'll be overly politically correct, and just the same as every other 1st, going on 2nd world country.

Not easily checked of course either. But in my experience motorcycling is heavily white dominated - not a term I wanted to use but accurate. In over 60 years of exposure to motorcycle sport I can only recall a handful of Maori competitors. In the US again, I understand you see very few Black competitors.
Given how many racers are on the bones of their arses and can barely afford to race I doubt it's an economic thing - maybe genetic ?

The immigrants that stand out are Asian because they obviously look different than south Africans Europeans etc. Given that Asian countries are heavily dominant in motorcycle transport and manufacture, I would have thought that there would be a few more Asians behind their usernames, maybe they have their own nz forum that they log onto at the local sushi bar.

I wonder if the Maori felt the same in the 1800s?
Or if the Moriori appreciated not understanding the dinner conversation?

I think it is rude to speak a non dominant language in the work place, if more of my colleagues spoke another language than English is rather learn that language than complain.

...Gaelic was spoken in our house, as much as English, when I was brought up...I remember when I started school, being surprised that everyone only spoke english...

I was walking up K Road the other night and there was a beggar there who was clearly " from

overseas" , must be one of those occupations in demand I suppose.

Papatoetoe I was told is now 48% Indian at the local school.

Only 36% of Aucklanders were born here.

I don't mind as my ancestors arrived by whaka out of Southampton after the difference of

    opinion.
DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

The Moriori were invariably the dinner, so the conversation was irrelevant to them.
