DC Shoes. I took a punt a couple o' years ago and loved them so bought another exackery the same, about a year later. Roughly 70 squids. Why? because I rode a skateboard once. What's 27 years, really in the big scheme of things. Oh, and because fuck Nike.

I've still got the pair I bought to go to Phillip Island in 2006. They are still comfy but are starting to look a bit tatty round the back of the heel. I have another pair of Merrils that were on special from a shop on the 'Net. They are a different thing, sort of a cross between a shoe and a sandal.

Jews own the shoe industry. Best to bind together $5 notes and empty packets of chips with duct tape.

I fucking hate shopping, and time spent in a shoe store makes me want to shit.
so basically looking for brand/style recommendations.
requirements are: last more than 6 months; fit wide feet; good rubber sole (think rock-climbing type grip). probably sub-200$. dont mind steel cap or non-.
I understand. While I do own a pair of shoes, I live in jandals (have four pairs) or motorcycle boots (have two pairs ...)

So you have my sympathy - but no useful recommendations at all ..

Perhaps not quite what you had in mind... but I often wear these when lots of walking is involved.
I have walking boots, sneakers etc. but these are more comfortable on my 12eee or 13w feet.
    https://m.1-day.co.nz/products/bison...safety-boots-1

I have worn them at least a couple of times a week for 2.5 years.
For all day walking, mowing lawns, Reno stuff, working on cars etc.
