The American (USA) 2016 presidential elections thread?

I see on the news tonight that in his meeting with the Ausie PM, Trump said that the USA and Australia had been allies for 99 years. Far be it from me to be pedantic (much!) but if the USA entered WW! in 1916 (ooops) - which they did. (Late again.) That'd be 101 years wouldn't it?

Not altogether sure we can blame Trump for that, at least one of his advisors might be as ignorant as he is.

Interesting. I have a Colt commemorative belt buckle which is marked "made from shell casings from the 1916/18 war'.

Wikipedia says war was declared in April 1917.

Either way it's before my time, but it's still not 99 years.

They were too busy being evacuated themselves, remember it was not only the british expaditionary force that was evacuated at Dunkirk.
It was a silly idea to build a wall defence that was easy to skirt arround
More the point was how peeved they were when the brits blew up their warships to stop the germans getting hold of them.

Some of the stuff they were working on ,forget the V2 , these boys had TV guided bombs ,

Look at the ratio of ruskie dead to German, 20 to one possibly more on the Russian front

Rumour has it they da Germans were using fuel air bombs

So the boys had the tech, and Nuremberg was a farcical show

So where is that tech now , who has it or knowledge of it and if they did persue that knowledge, then that would make a nuclear bomb look like a firecracker

So who did mr hitler think he was kidding.
The Poms had to do something because the Frogs had a huge navy, second only to the POms in that part of the world.
I knew about the guided bombs, but they were not used much, couldn't see though cloud or smoke plus the Jerry's never really had any stategic long range heavy bombers.
Its a waste of time concentrating on having the most technological weapons, if this results in a waste of resourses meaning you can't produce them in sufficent numbers or repair them.
The Sherman vs the King Tiger is a great example, the Jerry one might have be 4 times as good, but the Yanks were able to produce them at a 100:1 better ratio.
I watched something on the A10 warthog the other day it seems the design brief was laid out by the most succesfull German stuka pliot
That plane is still being used now and has never been bettered.
