Umm the Teleban didn't as far as I recall, although Al Qaeda may have eventually worked their way down their list to us. Al Qaeda were using Afghanistan as a base until the Yanks pursuaded them it would be safer to move to Pakistan as part of 'the war on terror'.

There's no doubt something lingering in the background, but to me the main focus is Nicky Hager and election year. This to me consigns the topic to yawn territory. The reality of a war zone, whether it be peace keeping or pushing enemy forces out of occupied territory, is not something a civilian can comprehend. But yeah, keyboard warriors know better...
