    More Strategic US Thinking

I'd barely finished reading about the latest burst of insightful strategic US
thought on how to handle Russians (a naval blockade), before the former
US ambassador to Russia (McFaul) chimed in to give his thoughts on the
benefit of applying more US sanctions:

    https://sputniknews.com/us/201809301...ul-back-again/

So, even if they didn't work the first time, or the second time, or even the
seventeenth time, well, just keep on applying them until they do.

Which rather reminded me of the "Dead Horse" image in the following link
    (zoom in to read options):

    Farewell American Empire?

Could this (long term) actually be part of a clandestine plot to eventually destroy the United States credibility in the eyes of the world so that total collapse is a natural expectation?

It's funny because I didn't realise this - but when you play monopoly......the bank just "appears" out of no where too.
The accuracy of that game is insane. Except the free parking space - that's fucking bullshit there isn't a pool of money everyone pays into, gets nothing and then you magically fucking get it.
Even the lotteries commission isn't that efficient.

Wheres the version of Monopoly where you get given a house money, free parking, utilities and pile of get out jail free cards.
DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

    Political Change Required

    https://www.rt.com/shows/sophieco/43...ae-kwon-chung/

A pity our world scientists are more focused on finding solutions
for an existential change, while most of the world politicians are
simply focused on the next elections and the interests of their
    sponsors.

    Local Climate Change Report

If you're not a CC believer, then there is no need to read any further.

I admit to being interested in climate change (CC), initially simply trying to
gain an understanding of what people were talking about. Probably started
around the time the NZ Emissions Trading System (ETS) was first being
    developed.

To help my own understanding, I compiled a spreadsheet of CC factors and
possible physical manifestations. I also mocked up a few graphical models to
try and show possible relationships between factors.

It seemed when I started looking for information (and over the intervening
time period) there was very little analysis and discussion of CC going on
in our own regional area (NZ and Australia). Even the IPCC reports make
    that point.

This seemed surprising. Especially given that NZ is a very exposed group of
islands out in the Pacific, with large population centres close to the sea,
and NZ very much dependent upon agriculture for its livelihood.

Even more so, that if you don't at least perform some data measurement and
data analysis, you lack data possibly needed for meaningful discussion later.
And for decision making on future mitigating action.

It is personally heartening (?) to see a new report having just been published
by NZCCRI and NIWA, where they have started to estimate possible economic
    costs of CC to NZ.

    https://treasury.govt.nz/sites/defau...ange-in-nz.pdf

The first 8-9 pages of the report are a bit dry, talking about data sources,
analysis methodology and some of the limitations. Results start page 9.

Pages 9-10 - Economic Impact. While the numbers published are interesting,
it was the conclusion that the numbers very much understate true economic
    impact upon NZ.

Pages 11-12 - Other Weather Events. That further study on currently excluded
weather event types could vastly improve our understanding and assessment
of risk to NZ due to CC.

Pages 13-15 - Wider Climate Impacts. This section was for me the most useful.
    Because:

    (i) it presented diagrams that highlighted relationships between various factors
    (impacts), in a way that people can easily understand and relate to ;

(ii) it listed CC manifestations likely to become more common (and observable).

    The Chinese Cultural Revolution version.
    Roll a dice:
    1: You die
    2: You die
    3: You get a house
4: You have parking but no car
    5: You get utilities
    6: You go to jail

You then live in existence with what you got first roll.

Switzerland is a country that typically "flys below the radar" much of the time.
You normally only hear its name mentioned when some climbers have fallen off
    a mountain.

So an article such as the following is of interest:

    https://www.rt.com/business/440288-s...alogue-launch/

I watch with interest whether this action gets "called out", and by whom.
