If Memory serves, The consensus is that it is acceptable for a Sikh to carry a miniature/ornamental Kirpan (this may even be from the British Sikh Council) - however what I've always found interesting was their reasoning:

The purpose for carrying the Kirpan is so that a Sikh is always ready and able to defend the weak from Tyranny. Therefore it is not the Dagger, but the Mindset that is important and so long as a Sikh carries with them a reminder of their duty and acts in accordance with that principle, it's ok not to carry the Knife.
