    Aussie

Real crims, real guns, heaps of job prospects, you would probably get to bash a lot of perp's.

Real gunfights and major gangland activity, massive ice problem, cities with the population of NEw Zealand and all the associated crimes in a condensed area.

If your serious mate it probably boils down to which country and culture you prefer. I haven't talked to any Aussy cops but have met a few kiwi ones. It's a harder job than most people imagine, but if you can hold onto a grounded perspective about the job and people in general there can be some real satisfaction obtained. Big challenges equal big rewards, but they sure cop some shit. I supect the details aren't really that different in Aus.

I reckon Aussy is a bit like fast food. Promises more than it really delivers and is more tolerable when you're young. I love the place but would never live there. We have the best country in the world. Stay here and make it even better by telling your mates where the speed traps are.

Mate I'd say NZ. You'd be surprised at the pay rates. NZ police are well paid and I believe are better paid than most Aussie state cops. I know a few ex NZ police who went over to enlist in the Queensland police and plenty came back. The only thing about NZ cops is that if you even fart in the wrong place you're all over the news. But hey alot of that is thanks to the traffic guys giving them a shitty name.

If you go to Aussie join AFP. Better overseas options.

Very good.... yeah, just check out the number of HP/traffic to GDB car ratios there are.

The pay is 'average at best' here, but Aussie have higher tax rates. The annual increments are a joke and no incentive to stay for skilled people who join the police in NZ. The pay rounds are barely regular enough to manage an average increase equal to the CPI index but it gets dressed up to sound good to the cops that don't understand the concept of inflation (which nowdays would be quite a number of them - some of the new recruits can't even spell or are barely out of school). Why they don't try to retain the older wiser and more experienced common sense cops I don't know.... probably a wages cost control thing.

Nah... blame the government for wanting to reduce the road toll from 700 a year to about 400 and amalgamating the dirty little MOT nazi's into the boys in blue police force.

It has been terrible for criminals, the poor bastards now get locked up because the cops tip them out as part of traffic duties. Shame that. I'd would rather see more people die or get injured on the roads and crims be able to drive about freely like the good old days so we can speed like the pro racers we all think we are and feel good about ourselves not getting tickets we so undeservedly get issued.

The police do a very public and thankless job. Dealing with all manner of shit and shitheads day in day out. Then they also have to do traffic to keep the govt happy and keep us safer on the roads all the while getting abused by people who deserved the ticket they got.

Yes, you get tossers in every job. But lets give them coppers a break. The traffic boys and girls are doing their job and we only have ourselves to blame for getting tickets - we choose to speed - not them. They have had the worst time of things because of govt policy and a few bad eggs that got way too much media hype and attention.

One thing i noticed in aussie is how people drive slower.... and the cops have no buffer on speed limits either. Break the limit by even 3km/h and you get a ticket that makes ours look cheap.

Well true. Just pisses me off as you never see HP near accident black spots. You only see them where its easy to clock Mr&Mrs Joe going about their day. I never see them around tosser boy racers near my place either. I guess thats cos they don't pay their fines so its north worth issuing them. HP are like robots mostly. Condescending attitudes and all. But in their defence I suppose they have to put up with gobby wankers for the most part.

But yeah its the govt thats rooted the cops here. Shit they even get crapped on by their own. I refer to Lyn Provost and the email thing a few years back.

I still say join the NZ cops though.

I hate to piss on your fire but I think you might have to have lived in the country for a certain period of time before you can apply to join the aussie force, possibly 2 years!
