So if they want to bitch about it, let them. These guys spend alot of money to go out there to compete and put on a show for us. Some rave on, on how good they are and some bitch...i mean, whats the harm in that..its all good fun......my hat's off to all the racers..bitch and moan if you like..remember..don't remember yer laptimes..aslong as your having fun..FUCK the rest!!! my 2cents

Dont mean to spoil your Thread Maarty and I understand where youre coming from,But rule 12 in appendix C (Production superbike rules) clearly states NO data or computer logging equipment is allowed.End of story really. However Im sure if the so called "Professional" teams were able to communicate with the officials and ask for permission maybe things might have been different.Having dealt with most of these teams at one stage or another it appears communication is not a required skill to race a motorcycle at the front of the field.

My 2 cents worth not including GST or freight and packaging

You are right of course Billy, just goads me that it is OK to accuse someone of cheating on a public forum but when another opinion is voiced it strikes another raw nerve.
Those who know, know that there was no cheating or anything underhanded going on. Its like the old saying i suppose, " those who have, do, those who dont, complain about those who do."

    NOW HEAR THIS!

As I said before, the views stated here are mine, they do not in any way reflect the views of my sponsors, riders, wife, cats or anyone else for that matter. I don't hide behind any non-de-plume when I have my say, i don't speak for anyone else either. How hard is this to understand!

I have been around long enough to hear all these weekend worriors talk the talk and frankly I am sick to death for these people not walking the walk. I have huge admiration for people who have achieved and got where they are through hard work and effort,( Craig, Sam, Kenneth, Adam, Hairy, Chris, Brian, Avalon, Billy, to name but a few) they have all the goodies because of their endevours, not because the whined and harped long enough and someone gave it to them to shut them up! I have no time at all for these whiners, no admiration for the boo-hoo poor me types, I don't care if they ride reasonably well, let their riding speak for them and then perhaps they will attract support and be able to get access to telemetry. You know what, none of those supporters on my website gave anything to me because I went and said poor me can you help me because Joe Blow has better stuff than me! they support me and my team because we work hard and put in the effort on and off the track!

As for Craig and Sam, These guys were there to test, shakedown the mounts and iron out the rough spots of their handling, so what, Sam had suspension telemetry, how many people have lap counters in the production or superbike classes?, isn't that data logging? CHEATS! Hope no one is racing a 1098 Ducati this season! CHEATS!

Bugger me, it is a sad day when one cannot even have an opinion without someone blowing it all out of proportion!

LASTLY, Does my only having made 9 entries on this forum make me any less entitled to an opinion?

One should always listen to all arguements and evaluate what is being said, take it in the context it was writin and respond accordingly.

    What an interesting thread.

I think the old saying "rules are rules" and they're there for a reason rings to mind.

Personally I couldn't give a toss how flash someones bike is. At the end of the day everyone knows who has a fast one and then there is the rest of the guys making up for the lack of power/handling by SKILL

Okay, lets get some perspective back and de-emotionalise this. I very clearly stated in another thread that Craig and Sam were there specifically to test, the results were irrelevant. Note that with these guys it is possible to have all three commodities i.e power, handling AND skill. That they were clearly having fun in the last race was a bonus for all those watching. That I will continue to try and make Craigs bike as settled as Sams is a given, but that will be very difficult given the combination of excess horsepower, Dunlops and a linkage/ swingarm package less effective than the R1.

The data logging gear on Sams bike WAS NOT telemetry and we only looked at it once during the entire meeting, no attempt was made to conceal it.

What we learn is always eventually passed through to all levels, whether they are circulating Manfield in 6's or 34's. Everyone is important to make up the sport as a whole. Its also easy to criticise other peoples riding abilities / lap times etc. Heck, if I raced I would probably be slower than that pink SV was, in part because of a keen desire for self preservation and the need to run my business.

As a parting shot I will occassionally use expletives ( never in ''public''print )but I think it is important ( even in this declining society ) to know exactly where it is inappropriate NOT to use such words.

I have been directed to this site after some online discussion regarding Sam Smith's 'telemetry' usage. Let me clarify a few things. There was no intention to upset those racing in the series. This is our test bed for the 2008 Championship. Points & position were not actually important to us at this event. Bike preparation & setup is what is important if we are to be competive in the up coming national championship. This is the first of many test sessions & events people will see us at over the coming months. The Racetech shock clock fitted to the machine is not a telemetry device, It measures suspension travel against time and is downloaded to a laptop after the session. I only actually took 2 recordings from it, 1 on friday (free practise) and another on Saturday. The information obtained was of no advantage to us on the day. We rely on Sam's riding skill and feedback for all suspension changes we make and the trusty tape measure. Obviously we made no secret of having the shockclock fitted to the bike. As for the legality of datalogging equipment including on board laptimers, the supplementary regulations for this series states under classes,
"Suberbike-Run under typical Formula One rules encompassing Production Superbike, modified Production Superbike........." I understand "formula 1"being open to modification and additions, likewise "modified Production Superbike"
The class regulations for the national championships are more specific and this device would definintely be excluded. The team takes all regulations very seriously to ensure exclusion is not a possibility.
Sam Smith is a talented young rider who needs everyones support in this industry/sport.
Unfortunatly shades of New Zealand famous 'Tall Poppy Syndrome' appears to be creeping in. It is not our intention to appear elitist. In fact we are trying to actively encourage new young talent into the sport. Our pit is always open for discussion to those keen to improve their racing potential. Please lets get back to enjoying our racing which is why we all do it, isn't it?
