    driftn round 5 report

Well it was quite an exciting weekend right from the alarm bells at 5.30am saturdy morning. Cameron, Myself and our girls jump in the stupidly low loaner honda accord and set out for race day. As we pass through waikanae about a k out and the trailer decides it no longer wanted to be attached to said honda. After a bit of swearing and cursing at the road side looking at the bung trailer i made an executive decision to get the bikes off the trailer and push the basterd into a ditch and ride the bikes there.
Quick stop in otaki for gas and some race tape to stop the fairings falling of jlo and keep the soul on my boot were off. get to the track and get set up.

Qualifying felt good(not so for cam as he had a low side in coke on the 3rd or 4th lap) managed to get 5th on the grid was quite happy with that untill i saw cam in 3rd(his first time ever on or at a race track for that matter).

Race 1. Got off to a flyer and had the lead into turn 1 now i have never led a race in my life and i tell you man i had the biggest s#$t eating grin on my face i have ever had. But it was all going to come to and end as i lost a couple of places. Was having a god tussle for 4th and just for somthing different the race gets red flaged suprise its cameron, high side turn one again(on ya mate glad your ok). Restart what do you know jlo comes to the party and bonza im first into turn one again. led for about a lap i think(was a long time ago) had a wicked battle for 4th or 5th cant really remember and finally got to the chequred flag. Feeling pretty happy that i kept it up right and i beat flame. Got the time sheet and i won clubmans b rapt my first race win even though i didnt actually win.

Race 2 Sunday. Got another primo start and lead the first lap lost a few places in splash was having a primo ride battling for 4th and see the red bloody flag story of my life i tell ya.
Restart no no no bad start and just kept going back in the pack(well it feels like it any way). My brain just turned to crap and i couldnt put a good lap together. Flame came past so i thought i would just stick with her and out drag to the line. Good plan however ran a bit wide in slpash and lost a place get hair pin and the guy crashes right in front of me lost two places from that and had a good drag race with Rossi gal down the middle straight. She is just demon under brakes and jlo has none so she got past. came 6th or 7th overall in that race not sure but won clbmns b.

Race 3. Decided to change the rear tyre to a slick and throw the warmers on. Got my head together and went out just to have a good time.
Got to the grid green flag drops and jlo just f#%ks off you little ripper turn 1 with heaps of confadence thanks to the warmers. The bike just felt amazing with the slick on the rear the drive out of turns was wicked. Led the first lap and a half and the rest of the race was just awesome there was 4 of us just having a wicked race, no yellow flags just race from start to finish out bloody standing. I had a wee moment going in the hair pin were i put the bike in neutral and ran wide. ended up in 4th behind bret on the other srad having a good tussle for 3rd. White flag i put my head down and my arse up i stuffed it up the inside of him in the hairpin but he just had a bitt better drive out of the turn. We went in higgins on the brakes side by side but he got by. Back staight in to the sweeper was my last chance as i knew i was faster through there than he was got right on him and chucked it down a gear to many and had a slide just enough for him to get a bit of a gap i managed to real him back in but not quite enough so that was me in 4th.
I must say i have never had so much fun on a bike in my life.
Came away from the round first overall in B so i got a nice black ribbon for that was really really happy with it.

I have so many people to thank. My girl Tania couldnt do it with out you, Drew for your help with the bike b4 the meeting and your wee pep talks b4 a race. Deano for letting jlo have some were warm to sleep and the tent in front of the garage, Jimmy for the slick and tyre warmers and my Dad for making the trip down was great to see you and to have you there for support. Most of all Paul Martindale(hope i spelt that right) for taking the bike back down for me i just cant thank you enough man or 2 for you at taupo man my shout. Any body else that i have forgotten you know who you are just a wicked weekend thank you all

P.S thank you for taking the time to read this small novel i hope it doesnt take as long to read as it did to write. Later people.

I was going to ask whether the back protector I sent down for you was ok, but your idiot big brother says it's still sitting in the van cos he forgot to give it to you. I don't know why I bother.
