t'was a good day out. I was coming then wasnt then was then wasnt so pleased I did.

Ride up was a comfortable pace following Banditrider. GPS read 2:06 with an 11 min stop, 101.39km moving average but batteries went flat in Stratford. The servo wanted $14 for 2 AA batteries so the GPS got thrown in the pack and not used again.
Forgotten highway was in fantastic condition. Running new tyres and had some unfavourable reports about the MEz4s but can confirm they did the job just nicely. Only had one slip on the wet tar all day and that was in Taumarnui with everyone watching. Bugger.
86 set a fantastic pace through from Taumarnui to Turangi. Fabulous time but had a bit of waiting to do at the end of it. Certainly put a smile on my face though. Cheers for that.
The ride home was pacey but fairly sedate with 2 police on the desert road, one was busy with a 70 something woman (dont believe what they tell you about old people, she was probably doing 105) and the other ignored us but had me a little nervous when the pulled over to the shoulder.
Didnt get the ks for the day, must have been 650 or so surely.

I never thanked Racer and Janno for the BBQ in my short writeup but you know we really appreciated it. Thanks heaps guys.

Made it safely home without rear brakes but missed out vinegar hill and 86 arrived 1m before me, perfect timing

Well the brakes are a little more sick than we at first thought:crybabe: your words are prophetic as always tony !!!

Somewhere I have shed a brake pad and the calliper has shredded and wrecked the inside of the disc too, it was hard to get off and will need to order new calliper, disc and pads in the morning (going to hurt methinks):frown:

This is why I quoted. WTF??? Where, how, why did the brake pad go? At worst the pad could have been sitting against the disc but without any brake fluid it shouldnt have been able to press against the disc to do any damage. What does the calliper shredded mean?
Is the disc scuffed up or has it welded metal "blobs" (yes that is my official term for it) to the disc? Would like to have a look at it. Sounds a bit weird.

Could have been worse, could have been the front. It is fixable and nobody hurt. Good practice for engine braking but some hairy downhill moments. SK1PY gets up some momentum that's for sure.

Hope your Honda soon feeling perky too Bonez, poor girls had a bit of a day!!
Yes. Not a good day for the hondas huh.

She's a mess alright! The inner brake pad is completely missing and the inner aluminium caliper has been almost completely ground away. The rest has embedded itself into the disc rotor. Ugly, and the caliper is totally rooted! The caliper is out, come over when you can and check it out!

as usual; a great day and a great bunch of people, thanks to all who came along and banditrider for getting organised

    too much to tell.....(as always)

cruisey pace to Stratford, great road to Whangamomona but was quite hard work 2-up so backed of the pace a little to compensate for the bumpy road surface

really enjoyed Whangamomona to Taumarunui, had a ball with some green bike til I decided to pass him, but I think he was just being nice - it was the way he was yawning, looking at the sky and riding no-hands that gave it away
then got a serious wriggle on trying to chase down another splendiferous RF900 (great to see two of them out there aye Boob) mrs yod is a legendary pillion and from Whanga home it really showed....

seemed to have a certain thundering duke on my tail for a large portion of the ride great views from the lookout between Taumarunui and Turangi

some nice smooth lines to follow from that green bike (again!) on the desert road twisties, then a certain gold beast joined the fray, seemingly from nowhere I might add, and we 'made haste' for Taihape, those two really are great chaps to follow when 'making haste' (although the green and gold theme is a little bit australian when ya think about it).....

couldnt have asked for a better day - great to get out on some new roads

got 49 photos and 2 vids so will post a few up whe I get my shite sorted
