    I use Xtra/Telecom

Because i can guarantee that it only goes down when the national grid does. All the other ISP's i have used were just renting Xtra's lines. So telecom dicks with them all the time.
Telecom are a bunch of assholes, but unfortunately a big bunch of assholes.

Free plug for my mates in Digital Island comms........ they have good internets

Anyone here have experience with Kiwilink naked DSL?

We need naked DSL at home, as we don't have a phone line and are unwilling to have anything to do with Telescum.

AFAIK, Kiwilink are currently the only naked DSL plans around (for now...)

    Any input appreciated.

PS we're in the Waitakere ranges, so woosh et al are not options.

    Ross.
I thought all DSL over the copper network were through Telecom, naked or not.Being in Laingholm might restrict you a bit as to availibility and speed.Naked DSL may present its own problems because its still being rolled out and techs don't know it's a working circuit since there's no dial tone.

Ditto I switched to Xnet recently after finally loosing my rag with the shittyness that was Xtra Go large and am loving it. As soon as I can afford a new router that has VOIP ports I'm going naked.

I am with Slingshot, am quite happy with their plan although the alloted 6GB just does not seem enough for me now...(remember the good old days where an average HardDrive was less than 1GB)
$40 gets me my max D/L speed and 256K upload & 6GB data...but I sometimes buy another 25GB of data(depends how much Sci Fi I want to download).

nz tinternet just sucks arse. so fucking sick of it.
I refuse to give Telescum any of my hard earned cents, so I am trying Woosh. And while it's not giving 'them' anything, it's not really giving me much either. Capping at 1.6mps, can't even stream youtube stuff. it's getting bloody annoying. But I'm not paying an extra 50 bucks a month for a phone I'm never going to use.

in the US and UK, you cannot get dialup plans. The slowest plan I found (browsing) in the US, is 10m/s which was something like $10.. ffs.. hate monopolizing companies and retarded governments that don't know/do shit.

You can say that again. I've just moved back from Tokyo where internet plans mostly start at 8Mbps and go up to 100Mbps fibre-optic lines, for around NZ$45/month. It is fast fast fast, and as far as I know there have never been caps of any type whatsoever. The connection NEVER drops out.

It has been like that for the last 4 years or so now, I guess it's just due to healthy competition for customers. At one point you could go down the street and find them handing out broadband modems, then go around the corner and find another company doing the same thing.

I think NZers are being shafted.

Im with woosh. There customer service is a little on the slack side but the internet is always available and fast enough for me. I got a sweet deal of them and I have no complaints especially @ $29.95 month. Means I dont have to have a landline and Telescum dont get my $$......

True that the broadband available down here is quite appaling... But it all stems from the fact that Telecom owns the bloody net - they have a goverment backed monopoly on the existing telecommunications net and until that atrocity is taken care of I'm sure nothing will change in a hurry.

BUT - the real fucking annoyance is that the infrastructure is so crappy that we apparently can't get broadband at our house because there aren't any free ports at the local exchange.
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

iHug (Vodafone) and Orcon are both currently in the process of putting their own equipment (local loop unbundling) into Telecom's exchanges which, when complete, will give their customers VDSL or ADSL 2+ (depending on your distance from your local exchange) connection speeds.

They are both currently testing in the Ponsonby and Glenfield exchanges.

Well, then they should get their asses in gear and do some field testing around Christchurch!

Dial-up is draining my very lifeforce - I could be on my way to Ashburton...
