I got a nice little rubber miniature of my Hornet with key on a special carbiner clip ...

Used to have a little light on it for those night time insertions and you haven't got yer fugg'n night sight yet!

    Well... LEFT there.
What a weird place for the key to be.
Having said that, even with the key where it should be (up on the bars) a key ring will still mark things. I used to have a plastic Mickey Mouse, but it left marks on the top of the triple clamp, so I swapped it for a free rubbery-plasticky one I was given one time when I donated blood.
The only scary thing about that is how quickly the white bits on it get grubby when commuting: less than two weeks from clean to being covered by road spooge.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Agree. My ignition key is separate from the bunch of keys on a keyring. At the moment I have my bike key tied with a bright cord so I don't lose it. The previous owner of my bike had the key attached to a can opener which started to leave marks.

CHECK THIS - especially on older bikes or worn keys: Can you pull out the key with the bike running? I have seen it done. This means the key can fall out when you ride, and good luck finding it! What you need to do in this case is attach the key to a cord with a clip - and clip it to some part of your bike so the key does not drop on the road "somewhere 20 km back".

I've got one a metal key ring but it's attached to one of those squiggly rubber things with lots of hair.

I vouch for those belt buckle carabiners which are very practical in a sense that you always know where you've put your key!

I just have a small plastic keyring for my one-for-all key. All others are kept in my pocket on a seperate one.

after loosing my keys out of my ignition , having to break the key lock on fuel tank to refuel, then finding said "lost" keys under my fuel tank, sharled up in the wiring on the frame......... FUCK!!!!!!
I now have a dog clip and choker chain attached to my keys whenever on the bike.
The choker chain is short enuff not to lie against anything and cause rubbing, the dog clip is a very small poodle clip attached to clutch cable.
At $75US for the small clip I broke on the fuel tank, opening the tank, I think a chain is the thing to use Because.....

I agree that having too many keys on your ring wears out the tumblers.
prob why mine fell out in the first place!

Brilliant idea... your not an engineer by any chance are you? Oh and why do you need handcuff keys..do you find yourself often restrained and in need of escape?

But I wouldn't recommend too many keys on the ring - the excess weight has been known to bugger-up the ignition switch.

AND: Why is this post in the P.D. section?
Or did I miss the pointless drivel part of it??
Yep scuff where the keys are
i stil get some scratches but what the hay
its only where the keys go

I can take my key out while riding without engine cutting out so I have a looped cable tie around brake line with carabina type clip thing onto it.

Have plastic protection over triple clamps.

I have all my keys on the one ring. losing a key and getting a replacement cut etc is more espensive than buying a new lock/key set.
