Hmm the police will not be with us for the whole ride & pretty hard to pull one rider out of the pack .. approx 90 ks at the front should not be a stretch for most newbie riders

It does work, and a talk to the Learners to let them know that they also have leaders If the main pack rides away and there is no need to play catch up, might work !
("Throwing them at ya" only ideas !!)
yup like them idea most experienced riders if they are at the back will not be doing 70 ks for sure .. also most of the time with our rides as you know there are plenty of smoke breaks but as we are on a time schedule this will not be the case on this ride .. 144 ks is not a huge distance but at a slow pace yes it could be .. hence we have the ability to change the distance at several points and make it a shorter ride but no actual stoppages as such til near the end

there will be two rolling re-groups on the ride to deal with the SH .. & a final re group that will be a full stop before close formation riding into the square

Similar to the toy run I went on last year,we rode around the mountain, leaving NP at 10.30,lunch in Hawera at 12.Normally it takes 50 mins NP-Hawera,they had a stop in Stratford to close the gaps, arrived in Hawera about 12.30ish.No way am I giving the learners rubbish, but a couple of times I went to take off to pass and had to back off,due to a learner not watching indicators on my bike(yep they were going at least 5 secs prior).

The route you guys take ,the yellow coats will be familiar with?So when they become TEC,could they be able to take a quick detour to meet up down the line, should they wish to rejoin and be able to point or direct further down the trip.

If the ride is say 140km,and if cruising at sedate speeds then realisticly it could take 2-21/2 hrs with stops depending on the road conditions, amount of riders etc.Is this(time) acceptable to you guys who will know the route, and probably ride it significantly quicker than others not familiar with it.

    Hey Sandra,
Has anyone considered first aid? It doesn't seem to get a mention in this thread so on the assumption it hasn't I'll go chat with our medics and get my first aider's qual refreshed. They may also help in stocking a triage bag. I expect the following would be useful.
    • Triangle bandages
    • Field dressings
    • Plastic bags
    • Sharp scissors
    • Tape
    • Bottled water
    • Blanket
    • Gloves
    • EAR masks
    • Pencil and paper

I should have a pack rack fitted by the end of the week so I don't mind carrying the ball. If there's someone coming along more qualified than me I'll gladly make number two.

Yeah, I have a St John's one that I used to carry but it's full of gimmicky things that probably aren't actually much use at the scene of a motor accident. A few of big field dressings, half a dozen triangular bandages and a bottle of water would be more useful IMO.

Needless to say, once I get my new rack and bag fitted the old first aid kit will be retired to the bathroom.

There's a coffee caravan in the square (opposite Highflyers, next to Pacha's kebab caravan.... Mmmm, kebabs) weekdays over lunchtimes. Don't know if she's there on weekends. And there's a new mobile coffee trailer on Rangitikei St next to the Westpac bank, not quite opposite McD's.

I know all this and I don't even drink coffee!

hmm so anyone in palmy free to go have a chat & let them know wot the plan is & gain a contact phone number for me, if they are interested in having a caravan on both sites .. just thinking a hot drink might be useful before & definately after the ride ..

Don't plan anything yet, from what I hear, PT's are looking at a gold coin donation and use their coffee machine and have someone making them. It is good coffee, and all proceeds to Helicopter

Good on ya PT. I just bought a rack for my VTR from them because of their involvement in this. Would have got it through ANZA otherwise.
