Helmet head?

Hello all, I'm new to KB and have been looking at the girly threads, very helpful btw, but I can't seem to find anything on hair.

I have a longish shaggy mop and as soon as I get the helmet off it either looks as though I have been dragged through a hedge backwards or has in fact moulded to the exact shape of my helmet. I wouldn't really mind this if I didn't ride my bike to work on a daily basis. Does anyone have any tips and hints for how to have a nice shiny mane with out having to take the car/bus everyday?

Try braiding your hair (if long enough) and wear a silk liner over your hair. A bandanna works well as well but can feel a little too thick if your helmet is reasonably tight.

Oh and welcome to KB...don't mind the boys, they're just all a good bunch really.

There was a thread on this some time back - you need to practice using the search functions - it turned up under "helmet hair". (I found it by clicking "Search" and typing in "helmet hair")

At the time, I asked the vifferbabe what she used, and she has a hair product called Shatter "Sexy Big Hair" or "Big Sexy Hair" or somesuch. It's a sort of foam or whatever that you swish through your golden locks with your fingertips, dry, and Voila! (a small, misspelled string instrument...)

Found it.....The 'anti helmet hair stuff' is called "Shatter", and the brand is "Sexy Big Hair, Must get some for my lady, Her hair is allmost down to her waist

I have long hair for a guy (down to armpits I reckon) but I must be lucky, because I don't seem to get helmet hair.Woo hoo.

Unless you really are attached to you hair, and depending on the shape of your head, shaving it to a #4 or thereabouts, longer if you prefer, can still look quite nice and no more helmet hair.

I've found, though, seeing guys with shorter hair (#1 or 2) sometimes get vent lines in their hair after long rides... That's amusing, because some of their hair stands up but the rest gets pressed down and it stays like that until they rinse it... But you probably don't need to know that.

I say, find a hairdresser who can cut it short but pretty, or do the silk bandana.

I use a comfy and that helps sort of stop the long bits getting too wind blown but recently I cut it down to about 5-10cm long and I find that helps a lot. I suppose it depends on whether or not you have straight hair or curly hair.

As for the hair thing, Braid (as many as you like) your hair when wet but put a good leave in conditioner in first. It helps reduce knots if the braid unravels & looks styled if you unbraid it at destination.
If your hair is too short to braid the conditioner may you to scrunch your hair back into shape.
You'll find what works for you best.

I hate having helmet hair. I braid my hair and then redo it into something nicer when I get off the bike.
I found wearing a neck sock (because it was cold) left my hair completely normaly looking, so that was a plus! But found the more I took my helmet off, the worse it got.
