Ask HIM... Take the BIGGEST risk of your life...and start figuring out how you can DO it. Start with NOTHING, and the ONLY way to go... is up (or SOUTH). Post a message or pm me, if you REALLY are thinking about YOUR options...

There is the 1000 miler GC in the NI too. Which i hope to beable to complete one day.

I want to do a 2 or 3 day tour of the SI one day - atm im savng up for a new bike, not sure how much more km my 250 will make

but atm im just a poor worker / uni student - im in no rush to do anything other than - finish uni, pay off uni, fix my bike.

All of which cost the $$ which i dont have - but will have in a few years.

1000 miler's change your opinions and idea's on so many issues, and levels. So much so, life will NEVER be the same...EVER again. Just to complete ONE is worth putting on YOUR cv. Determination and persistance, with a dose of pig-headedness will get you home (usually). You will learn things about yourself ...YOU NEVER KNEW. AND, you will gain RESPECT from people you never gave a shit about...believe me !!! IT IS NOT ABOUT SPEED to FINISH. Its all down to you.

If i really had to choose id still go for the Honda definately, the engine in the cbr is a really strong engine, way better than the old fzr250 of the same era for example. They are a fantastic bike.

And who the hell cares about comfort on the sport bike, if you want comfort go buy a hyosung with its massive handles bars and a seat off a goldwing.

Parallel twin 250 makes me cringe. But i suppose if you want a new bike, and all the stuff that goes with having a brand new bike, then they are basically the only way to go if you want a sporty good looking 250.

    Cbr250r

Very True about the twin!! lots of people that aren't into racing forget the torque aspect of engines...thinking only of WHP!! More cylinders is better....the ninja 250 had 12lbs of torque, the new 08' has been boosted to 14lbs. Well the CBR250's had 18-19lbs depending on the year. So your talking about 25 vs 35whp, but also 50% more torque. So 40% more WHP....50% more torque...that makes a big difference! Even the kawi ZXR250 had 18lbs torque but at 11.5K rpm, not 19lbs at 10.5rpm....more torque early in the game for the cbr250's. Not to mention when honda built the 6 cylinder 250 in the 1960's....it had 66hp. I've never heard of a 4-stroke 250 thats better than that & that was 45 years ago! ...Racing heritage!

The ninja 250R was an improvement on the GPX250, which is exactly what it did.

200kp/h on a CBR250? Yah, with a down hill and some tailwind maybe...

And 250cc power? A cbr250 puts out about 35 horses at the wheel, i had the GN cranking 34 at the tyre at one point. The point here being that it Really Doesn't Matter (tm) its a 250 at the end of the day.

Like someone mentioned a while ago, if you want to go fast on a 250, get a two stroke. Everything else is just an exersize in futility.

This thread is a crack up. GPX is an 80's commuter bike. The new one with fuel injection won't be much sportier if at all, but more reliable.

The CBR250RR is trackworthy and really quite quick and a butt load of fun. It can do close to 200kph drafting RGV's and 400's (or heavily modified 250 4's) in stock standard setup whilst also being 18 years old. The RS250 would be noticeably quicker but they are only about as quick as RGV's, so a good rider on a CBR250 would actually be quicker than an average rider on an RS250, and for all the issues that you have to deal with on a 2 stroke for me it wasn't worth the trouble. I started on an ex racing RGV Pepsi replica, and "downgraded" to a CBR250RR which to me is a better bike in so many ways even if it's not quite as powerful. Since then I've raced 600's and had track time on things as big as a Hayabusa and I'm now back racing CBR250RR's in Australia and winning prize money (even though mine is stock and was bought as a write off with some issues and the other's I'm up against are modified).

Seriously if you've got one of the old 250 4's then you've done a good thing. They are some of the best overall bikes. Amazing in the twisties awesome brakes, very average suspension but it doesn't seem to matter because they are soo light. And for some reason despite the extraordinarily high revs they just (the Hondas that is) seem to keep on going.

Power at the wheels on the CBR's is about 35-36. The guys I'm racing who've modified their bikes are getting about 38-39hp. They weight about 150kg's wet. 0-100 in 5.0 seconds approx. Someone got stats on the GPX's? Anyway, they suspension geometry's on the GPX are not really performance focussed so they won't be as good around corners, and don't they have a single front disc? Weak braking?

Who said a GN had 34 at the wheel? hahahaha, that's brilliant. they'd be lucky to have 11hp at the wheel. Anyone got stats?

I've done a lot of posts like this in the past. One day I'll give up.

I think you'll find he said he had his GN putting out 34....not stock standard at all.

I'm still convinced that horsepower is an irrelevant number, and quoting torque as a single figure is pointless too.

So the numbers game just isn't worth playing.

Vtec, what kind of mods are they running for the extra ponies on the MC22? I'm guessing exhaust, but what else?
