Lots of (some say) bad habits
I smoke, i drink, have experimented with drugs, then experimented with them some more as the designs changed, got married,
then gave it up as it was bad for me !

The married part that is, it was the only thing i didn't enjoy ! Sure won't arrive at the grave in pristine condition
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

I gave up 3yrs ago after my brother in Laws funeral, I had smoked so much that week I gave myself tonsilitus.. That was the 5th or 6th time I had given up and I finally learnt the "1 smoke is 1 smoke too many" rule.
So yeah 3yrs. I think I may have finally kicked it this time. Previous to this time the longest I had lasted without smoking was 1yr.

No one is pointing a finger at you personally, its your choice to smoke, you are old enough to make up your own mind if you want to poison your body. No one is telling you that you MUST give up. I personally couldn't give too hoots if you get sick from smoking, I don't know you & probably never will, knock ya self out sunshine

I see you haven't met his mother either!
If you did, you'd prolly take up smoking..it is a better alternative than homicide...

    Observation only

I noticed over the years that the occupants of the cells at work seem to be in a ratio of at least 19 smokers to every 1 non-smoker?

    Any theories.??

    That smoking makes lockup bearable??
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Smokers are low life law breakers!

    Seriously though for a moment...

I smoke, I know it is bad for me, am not ready to give it away yet. Have had a couple of attempts to quit but have failed to do so, using Grubs theory the next time I do will be the last time I do.

Like you I can count the number of ciggies I've smoked on one hand in the last 49 years (and none were smoked more than 20% down). If I add in cigars I still wouldn't run out of fingers. I've never understood the attraction.

I remember my first when I was about 13. Made me feel dizzy and sick to the stomach.
My parents used to smoke 2 packs a day. I figure if I'd smoked that many I'd have burn't more than half a million of those little cancer sticks. How much is that in dollars?

Can't contribute to the poll there is no 'I dabble' in smoking option or 'I am a mood smoker' ....not just bad moods either.,..seem to do most of my smoking talking shit with girlfriends...it's just the done thing

That is I smoke now and then, sometimes heavily and sometime just occasionally, big gaps in between 'dabbling' some of years and still I enjoy the odd ciggie Yes I shouldn't do it and yes it is stupid but well I just do it when I want and now that I have reconciled that in my mind I tend to smoke a lot less

Kinda like when you are on a diet and feel the need to eat everything in sight.

I used enjoy smoking. I liked the taste, I liked the nicotine hit, I liked the little ceremony of rolling smokes. I smoked a 50gm per fortnight, maybe more. I could get through a 15gm and a 20 pack on a big friday/saturday night.

I tried giving up a few times. And relapsed 1 less time. I havn't had a cigarette in 4.5 years and don't plan to start again.

The method that worked for me was cold turkey combined with not going anywhere near the places that I associated with smokes. I basically gave up drinking. Untill a few months ago I hadn't gone to the bar at work since giving up. I didn't go to the smoking area at work and didn't hang around smoking people at all. I haven't physically touched a cigarette since.
Alcohol. The cause of and solution to all lifes problems.
