Police are cool...... They keep us safe at night. trying to keep the drunks of the roads. I was breath tested last week taking my lady to hospital.
The Police officer there was very nice even with me in a nice warm cage and him freazing outside.
You have to respect them and what they do.

Well said - most of us only know a small amount about the job.

My respect for the Police increased markedly after a SCOPE placement which gave me a better understanding of the job's true nature as the enforcement/public order arm of the law. The stuff they do is impressive, even on quiet, raining nights in South Aucks.

I have to disagree. Some very decent ones out there who are doing what they are employed to do: Making our life safer.

Personally I would never do their job. All the crap that goes with it, what it does to the private life, the circle of old friends, the limitations it puts on their life, the scrutiny they are under from all sides.

Sadly it also tends to go to somes heads.

Personally I get the feeling that the ones on here want to keep one foot in the "normal" life. Can't be easy.

It has a huge effect in that you are always recognised as a cop, even when you just want to be you and be away from the "label" enjoying family and friends.

It was a job were you see the very worst in people and also the very best.

In the main, the frontline cops do their best - just like any group of employees in any organisation. It would be good to see their bosses, the government and the media backing them fully rather than tearing into them for self gain.

Some of the best people I ever met where those working beside me in the police. I am thankful they are still there.

Don't know about Patrick. But I think part of it with Scumdog, as he has said before . He had a life before he became a cop. Maybe life experience is important after all.

I have to be perfectly honest here. I like Scumdog coz he's Scumdog. I don't really think of him as a copper....he prolly doesn't think of me as a marketing manager but hey - who cares since I've resigned from that job anyway.

Also Patrick. I haven't met him but reckon from his posts we'd prolly get on alright.

What I am trying to say is that a person is not defined by the job they do and we're all just people trying to make our way in the world.

We have one thing in common bikes.Who cares what your occupation is,nurse,ambo,firey,copper,all about the person not the job they do.

But yep good on them,tough job,and someones gotta do it.And they have a sense of humour,well the ones did that nabbed me dic years ago,told them I was too pissed to walk.They cracked up,drove my car and myself home afterwards.

Yeah, coppers are good fellas alright. Special thanks to the one who made a noticeable effort of looking the other way when I *ahem* slightly went over the speed limit a couple of months ago. Thanks dude!
Special thanks to the gentleman of the K9 unit who helped me to jump start my bike in a deserted parking lot under torrential rain when the battery went flat. You didn't have to get out of your cruiser and get all wet to help out a fellow human being. Thank you! Thanks Scumdog for being such a nice fellow.
