this all seems to be getting pretty complicated from what started as a pretty simple idea.

Koz is trying pretty hard to keep things going and working for everyone.

Maybe we do what we did for the first one.

Pick a destination. Choose a route on the day. Choose a leader on the day.
    Have fun.

For me - I like the idea of starting at a cafe. Have a coffee, bit of a chat about which way we can go, and then go. Paddy knows heaps of great roads and is a fantastic leader of the ride. Koz has been doing great work making sure everyones voice is heard.

Me, I am a lazy prick, sarcastic and don't know shit about riding or what roads are out there so am happy to go with the flow.

I enjoy the piss taking but it can be demoralising when all you are trying to do is make a fun day out for everyone. I am pretty guilty of pisstaking.. cant help myself. But can understand that it makes a job much harder.

I don't go on the rides to learn I go on the rides for fun and a day out with like minded people. I will go to track days to learn or quietly approach someone I have respect for personally and respect for the skills I see them with. So for me this is more about a fun time. If it gets all bogged down in politics and talk of management etc.. you can count me out.

    Thanks for reading

Thanks dude, i am with you there on all of it. If our fun and crusy rides get boring then they aren't fun anymore.

Spot on!!!! and Mr Wysper your a "sarcastic prick", surely not!!!!!

I agree with most of it. If it gets to structured then it'll be a shame. It needs to stay relaxed. I still think people maybe misinterpreting the "structure" bit of what people have been saying.

I like the idea of starting at Kingsgate for brekky.

I like the idea of stopping at a cafe that is out of the way on route (this one is my suggestion)

I agree wysper, you are lazy and all the other stuff about yourself

I agree that Koz is doing it all.

I think that the maps are cool but I know working from them they are an asshole. Unless you're doing them for yourself Koz, I wouldn't worry about them. Even stating the basic route i.e. Head out to Kawhia via such and such a place maybe the go. If someone wants to know the exact route for meeting they ask the leader for the day (Ian's idea).

I'm willing to put the ride in the calendar (if I work it out), even route details if someone gives them to me.

Maybe freewheeling the route is a good idea. We'll most probably get Paddy leading all of them though. Fine by me, I only see him at the stops.

One thing to remember is the run's have only just started & yes I'm sure everyone has a route of their own in mind that they would love to share with the rest of us but, we only met once a week & there is only so many weeks in a month..... another trick the Ulysses have is their own run's committee which consists of @ 4- 5 ppl their primary function is to organise run's for the coming weeks, appoint a run's leader ( normally the person from within the run's committee who has planned said run ) nominate a tailend charlie & give all riders a quick brief on where we are heading coffee & lunch stops etc etc. If some has a run they would like to try or a suggested route this can be passed onto someone within the run's committee to be looked at & possible nominated for a sunday's ride. thoughts??

    Lightbulb A Summary

OK, here's my little take on things. Warning this maybe long and feel free to correct anything I have wrong. I also know that this could be discussed on the 6th but I have a funny feeling it may not wait that long...

Sorry for singling out anyone too but it just makes it easier to write...

Koz and a few others don't want to have any "official" structure to these rides. They're scared if that happens the laxed attitude will be lost and the fun will go.

Murray and a few others reckon a small group can do all the route planning with imput and suggestions from others if they want. This will take the load off people that have been doing most of the work (Koz mainly). From what I've seen in the past, this is actually whats been happening with Koz adding it in the calendar.

Ian is by himself and thinks 1 person from the previous week sorts the route and also leads. If they don't want to that's fine, they can pass the flag on. This is quite a cool idea in the way that pretty much everyone can suggest a route they think will be cool and can lead if they want. Newbies will probably skip on this one (which is fine).

Wysper things we should go commando like the good 'ole days and wing the routes after a general discussion as been made about destination over brekky.

    The main points to remember:
    - we are not formal and this is why we are known as Laxed out riders
    - any talk of committee is meant in the most informal way i.e. 4 or so people sitting down over a beer trying to work out where they shall thrill the rest of us (dodgyness unintended)
    - not everyone needs to be consulted on route. No one has in the past so why start? Only a few have voiced opinions and that's cool.
    - These are not rides to specifically learn on (I'll set these up later) but are rides to chill with good people and enjoy the roads. You can ask people advice and they'll give it but always remember just to enjoy the road.

My view, there does need to be some "structure" to make sure no one gets caught with all the work. Be it, a small and informal group of people who know the roads or 1 rider picking and leading.

I think a bit of both would be cool. A group does the majority of planning. If someone wants us to do something different they tell the group to have a week off and do take us where they want. If you want to have input, suggest it to the group, or join it.

If I've pissed anyone off...tough But I thought it needed to be outlined so it can either be sorted now and finalised at drinkies on the 6th or discussed and finalised on the 6th.

    Carry on

I just reckon we should keep it simple, i don't mind drawing the maps, i quite like it actually, i don't mind doing the calendar appt either. I do go to a great deal of effort here because i want to, no one asked me to but i want to because its nice to give something back.

It pisses me off when i go to the trouble of doing a whole pile of stuff and my efforts are met with diminishing crap.

Taking the piss and normal banter about the colour of bikes is all good

I still think the best thing to do is maintain discussions on routes between everyone, maybe whoever suggests one first is put on the calendar as "tentative" early in the week and then see if anyone has suggestions by friday.

Truth be told there's only a handful of people who have anything to do with the routes anyways, most people are just happy to turn up and go for a ride.
(hence my suggestion to have a seperate thread for planning)

Just my 2 cents, i enjoyed your ride last week for several reasons.
It was simple, ie follow the leader , no one egotistical, a great bunch of like minded guys who love riding and encouraging others to do the same, some one was always keeping an eye on the others to make sure they were coming along,
This group has its own uniqueness (?)
i will be back for more rides because of this.
You could always keep a print of the maps so you could refer back to them and vary them on the day, there are alot of nice places to stop around NZ and we all have favorites, if you have one give it to the guys that post the rides and share them with the rest.
Am hoping to be on the kawhia run but are taking a ride down to Westport next thursday if not there have a good one

Coming from a perspective of being at the rear (cut the gutter thinking you lot!) I know that on the day I don't really mind where we are going, don't really care in detail about the directions (turn left here, right there, past this etc - coz I'll just forget them anyway!) Like what Ian said, I am just happy to turn up as I don't know the roads around here and I will never be up the front leading, so as long as I have an idea of where we are going, where we are stopping for coffee/lunch etc and if there is a turn off people wait for the group to catch up etc that sweet with me.

I guess because there are so many people that tag along we might need a bit of structure but i vote (if this is what we are doing with all this discussion) to go with the K.I.S theory - keep it simple. Someone has an idea and roll with it. I wouldn't imagine too many people wouldn't want to go on a particular ride just because of the desitnation, coz like we all seem to be saying, we just like to go on a ride with other like minded people, and the destination is just the bonus.

At the end of the day, I'll just "follow the leader".

And one other thing..... you all rock, I love meeting up and spending time with you ALL and also think it would be cool if we could have the odd sivvy dinner etc every now and then (seeing as we are missing out on the 6th (ckai (cameron) and I)

New Plymouth ride looks wicked as too, would be keen for that, will be in New Plymouth for Americarna so I would love to do it the week following that to have a decent break.

And if I pluck up the guts (I'm such a pussy (and not much of a girl either as you can tell from my delightful language!)) to tell my parent's I've got a bike, if they haven't disowned me, they might put up their lawn too!
