When I'm not Fixing Or Repairing Daily, my Fairmont does 9L/100KM on the open road. We get about 500KM out of a tank when driving round town and I suspect that's because our daily "commute" is only 8km for the round trip.

Am I the first to say this but...

    Petrol consumption = 0

My car sits for around 11months of the year. I use my bike everyday for everything and all the time. Car only gets used when I really need to stock up and carry things or if it's pissing down super hard, or just raining but I have a fair distance to travel.

That is quite a contradictory statement.
It provides 1 month of driving yet does "0" fuel consumption?
You use your bike "everyday for everything - all the time" yet still use the car?

When it does get used (and that's not often), the Vitara gets 35-37 mpg (12-13 kms/litre).

You've got a heavy foot - I can keep my 2003 Falcon below 11l/100km around town by tickling the accelerator and I can get 9.5L/100km on the open road using cruise control at 108kph.

It's not as fuel efficient as my 1.4l Seat Ibiza I had in blighty though.

Suzuki Baleno station wagon from nelson to hokitika doing 110-120 14.76 kms per litre, one way home (via westport) thrashing it (pacing with a couple bikes doing 140-150 for a good while) and driving like they hadnt invented cops it did just under 13kms per litre. Only compensation to having a gutless 1.8!
