there is actually a atrical in a fishing mag i saw about these guys there was about 4 of them and all had sharks around the same size, and they where actually targeting them,. I asume they used bang sticks when they came close to the kayak's .. they whre sweedish of something fishing just of the cost of finland if i remember right. I may be wrong and have the artical confused with another, But I do remember the picture. and there where definatly more than one guy with a shark on board lol.

So how did they even reel it in without just getting dragged down? The weight alone has that kayak partially under the water... Shark fishing in something that is at water level with a shark and even smaller than it must be exiting though...

Sure if it dove it would drag them down, but im sure they would have let it run and worn it down first before tighting up the drag and hauling it in, a dead weight wont drag it under. and you would have to be stupid to try and wind it straight in. they would of let it tow for a while to tire it out im sure.

watch cambell live tonight and you will see someone who jumped out a helicopter onto a live marlin. I think its tonight,.

We went out for a few mins after work... Dude coming in (tinny) had a snapper that was half buffalo I reckon... DAMN!

Damn long lines... So did I catch anything? Erm - nope....

    Still, learnt that....

    1. My fancy bait / soft bait set up I made from the internet sucks from a kayak.
    2. I need a second rod holder for plan B
    3. I spent more time dodging Vicki (who had a blast) than I did fishing.
    4. Vicki didn't fall out coming in despite the gallery (general rule is more people on the beach the more nervous she gets) and enjoyed it despite forgetting how the reel worked...
    5. DON"T try and show someone how a reel works while in two kayaks - particularly someone you sleep with... (sigh)
    6. Our new booties thingies are da bomb...

Fun though! Vickis as happy as a clam.... She was worried she would fall in coming back through the surf as there were heaps of folks on the beach... (general rule is more than 5 watching she bins it) - not tonight though!!

Still - better than watching the telly....

So why did your soft bait setup suck?

I got too clever for my own good...

I have a nice little soft bait set up which works well but mr clever clogs built a modified ledger rig to work a real bait top hook and a soft bait crab bottom hook... Line was too heavy and too much on the real, botto leader was too long and kept getting tangled - whole thing was too long for the rod.

I'll re make it with a braid main line and a shorter flouro leader (man have I got he lingo down pat - almost sound like a fishyman)

I am just looking at getting into the softbait side of things, but by god there is heaps of conflicting info out there. About what sort of budget should I be looking at for a good rod/real combo?

I dont have yet one and have just started looking - Im guessing $300 - $550 should see you ok for a good 'un

I'd go chat with a large tackle shop (fish city) and see what they say.
