    Just a wind up really.

Although I have tried 3 times to ride to Akoroa and abandoned due to 'a cyclone' all three times.

Wow sounds like bliss. And as a gessy that doesn't do caffeine I really couldn't give a rats ass about lattes!!

Tall poppy syndrome and the great kiwi knocking machine swinging into action... THEY (whoever "they" are) aren't as good as "us"... therefore Chch must be less good.

Same treatment you'll see the Police getting, or any other group you can define.

    Chch does "do" summer...
    Take togs for those times.
A proper English coat for winter, is advised!

Don't give up... God - NZ needs people with initiative. Ignore the ignorant masses.

sounds like what people said to me when I said I was moving to NZ, or people in London when I said I wa moving to Glasgow, or people in South London when I said I was moving to St. Albans...

Since when did people's opinions on something like this matter?

    Bless ya.

It is just that from an anthropoligical standpoint I find it amazing that country like NZ with such a small population has the exact same issues as an overpopulated country as UK. I would have thought that Kiwis would have stuck together and united against larger countries.

It is not that the opinions matter, I would move no matter what. I just wonder where these opions come from and why people feel the need for them?

    We do if it's Australia.

Go to Christchurch and have a look. In a few weeks time it should be nice, they actually have a real autumn down there.

I think maybe the rascist tag comes from the skinhead shitwits that beat people up in the downtown area in the wee small hours. That may not be particularly racially motivated though, it's quite possible they are equal opportunity thugs.

When It comes to places to live it'd probably be as well to find out where the boi racers go and avoid those places.

Pretty much true, except for the last bit - we got plenty boy racers.

Not to take anything away from Auckland, I am convinced it is a nice enough big city - with everything that goes with that term. But, if you're going to travel half the way around the globe to settle in a big city the choice would either be Sydney or Melbourne, I wouldn't even consider Auckland. If big city is what you want, why not do it properly?
It has to be said though - I am not a city person.

New Zealand is an awesome place for a huge number of reasons. To point out but a few: you got the nature, you got the space, you got the relaxed lifestyle, good food and wine , you got the good folks, all-up I would rather live here than anywhere else I've been. There are a few downsides of course - poor infrastructure (for a modern country), lower wages, freighting in stuff from overseas is both expensive and takes a long time...

I think you'll like it down here, it really isn't a bad spot.
