Gun laws are pretty liberal for Rifles and shotguns. Handguns are very difficult to get (legally), though they aren't really needed here either.

Top tax rate is 39%, but there are quite a few hidden taxes as well.

Farriers? There is a whole range of charges. Our favourite farrier charges us $80 for our mare, but he's very picky about what horses he will shoe. Another local farrier/trainer charges $140 and he is often employed to do the more difficult horses. Yet another (female farrier) is $120, and I have heard of prices as low as $65. Rider in Black on kiwibiker was a farrier and recently gave up on the horses and went back to his previous proffession.
