From porn king to the Mayor of Auckland: promoter Steve Crow is planning a move into politics.

Mr Crow is shrugging off any suggestion the announcement is another publicity stunt for his Erotica expo. He says he is serious, and has the qualifications to take on the job.

Mr Crow says he has been a merchant banker and run a number of successful businesses in tough industries. In that respect he says, he is no different from incumbent mayor Dick Hubbard.

Could it be worse than Mother Hubbard? Boobs on Bikes would have to be the most fun Queen St. has seen in living memory.

As eager as I am to see the back of DH, I can't see PK getting anywhere near enough votes. I would say he would know that. I think it's just grand standing - playing on the publicity.

Auckland doesn't need gimmicks and publicity stunts, it needs a person with a suitable back-bone, who can make things happen. This Crow guy may or may not have the goods, who knows, he better make sure he knows what he's getting into.

I say go for it.

What little I know of his background he seems to have some of the credentials for it... I cringe when I see successful business types enter the land of the bureaucrat though. 2 completely different animals, and as soon as they try to do things they way they used to they get pushed aside or labelled a dictator.

Crow would get slaughtered by all the sandal wearing, tree hugging nah sayers. First we a Super Council to rid ourselves of the broken machine.

Running an expo or two is very different to running a city. Remember the saying better the devil you know than the devil you don't know.

While it would be obvious that he would be in favour of lots more non conventional policies/events would they be to the benfit of the WHOLE city.

I.e An increase in rape/sex abuse cases etc wouldn't be that appealling I would think.

Nor does running a Cereal company have anything to do with ruining a city.
