I don't think there is a high risk for becoming a black society. I don't think Chinese will let that happen

With all the intermarriage, at worst we'll end up beige.

From my point of view, I don't think its the colour that counts but the attitudes and tolerance of every person deciding to make a life here in ol'NZ. I'm an equal opportunity bigot, 'cause I hate all idiots equally - regardless of creed, colour, race or religion!

As for the statistics ... there are two types of people, those who categorise and those who don't!

I am not liking the sound of that, it just seems crazy.

Did anybody pay more attention and get the full story?
Perhaps then you should have paid more attention. What the story was actually about is the impact of a young and fast growing Pacific community, particularly relating to the workforce. The predicition cited was that in 40 years, 60% of Kiwi kids will be of Maori or Pacific Island descent. If one in 20 Pacific Islanders make up the workforce now, in 50 years time one in six workers will be Pacific. It's good to see that the Pacific community is thinking about this forecasting now so their children can get better paid work and be more involved in the economy.

Many Pacific Islanders migrated to New Zealand in the 1960s and 1970s to work in factories. Now it is about encouraging their children not just to work in the business, but to own it. The big push to upskill has meant a huge cultural shift for Pacific Islanders. Parents are realising there is more to it than pushing their kids into being doctors and lawyers. Forging different careers - doing what you like and doing what your good at - is a simple but obvious message.

The thing that saddens me most is that a thread like this even got started, especially in the way the that it did and some of the respondents are so blantently bigoted as to be offensive.

    Maybe it was 16%?

What's with the "black" classification though?!?! Who's black??

Quite stoked to see us speaking up against ethnocentric attitudes!! You're tops!

Excellent. Finally I'll be recognised as a minority and as long as Labour are still in power, I shall benefit big time.

Until then, business as usual I guess. Although, there's an attractive Samoan girl working in my company and I was thinking of marrying her. On second thought, I don't want my kids being mainstream and missing out on minority benefits. She's really cute though. What do I do?

Maybe i didn't phrase that very well.

I was really asking for the full story and not just being a "bigot"
Thanks for those people who saw the story and could fill me in. Thats what i was really asking about. The thing that i didn't like the sound of was the numbers but i got that wrong.
"The predicition cited was that in 40 years, 60% of Kiwi kids will be of Maori or Pacific Island descent." Garry.W

And to those that said predictions are bullshit - thats a good point, i didn't even know what the story or statistics classed as "black children".

So we aren't gonna be having 60% of all kids born with maori or pacific island decent - which would be one amazing feat of breeding from 20 odd percent of the population.

Guess i was jumping the gun but to all those that got uppity about it - whatever, i guess on an internet forum i can sit here with my white hood on or with my fijian wife, don't really matter.
