Not a huge starwars or trek fan.. though I prefer the starwars universe over the star trek universe.

Gimme B5, Farscape, Lexx, or Red Dwarf any day.

It has to be Star Trek, they were the first.Lost in space was a kids program and we knew it,but Star Trek was an adults show and on late...and we got to stay up and watch it because it was real ground breaking stuff.

My daughters who are in their 20's watched the Star Trek reruns as kids and are Trekkies,my boys are watching the reruns now,and we can't get them to go anywhere on a sunday until both Star Treks are over.I never watched much of New Generation,I was an adult then and life was too busy for TV,so the re runs are kinda interesting. The Deep Space Nine thing wasn't Scifi,it was more Shortland St in space....watching aliens having relationship problems is not my idea of science fiction.

Star Wars is a better story and world and much more fun for kids.

Don't forget "Avon" he was the man. Kind of liked the name Avon when I was younger now it just seems gay.

It was advertised as "Melrose Place in space" ages ago when it was on tv4.
    (or maybe that was Voyager...?)

I had to see the Phantom Menace twice because I didn't believe the first time how bad it was. The old star wars movies are neat though.

I haven't seen much of the original star trek series. But I like voyager, ds9, and I'm just working my way through The Next Generation at the moment, it's great.

I've seen the whole Enterprise series... the first season was ok, but it went downhill pretty rapidly from there.

I was pretty disappointed with the latest star trek movie "nemesis".

Firefly, Red Dwarf, the new Battlestar Galactica (which has just started it's 3rd season - have to start watching them) are all great shows.

Lexx was a little disturbing, but kinda cool.

So true, but give it a chance, you'll get back into it.

A few weeks ago in the original Star Trek was an episode with a young Ricardo Montalban playing Khan.....who later repised the role in the Star Trek movie Wrath of Khan.I never knew that episode existed, although I may of seen it as a kid.Ricardo Montalban was a bit player who appeared in countless tv programs and movies in some ethnic role, instantly recognised by his strong voice....so a Star Trek episode wouldn't of stood out.

I must be a Trekkie if I find such details interesting.....

    "The plane, the plane!...."

Which leads into ..."There's something....on the wing!"

And into 3rd Rock from the sun...

Which predated the credits in MIB

During Spaceballs "My Schwartz is bigger than yours!"

And Now for something completely different!

There's a website dedicated to showing all the starships from all the most popular shows/films in scale with each other. The USS Enterprise ain't that big compared to a Star Destroyer. Not even Picard's Sovereign class NCC1701-E is that big. Take a look for yourselves here

Hell yes - i bought that series as soon as i saw it. It is so full of motorcycle philosopy....like...."Wer'e still flying.....sometimes dats all you need"
    or
    "How bad is it?"
"Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die?"
    "Oh"

That's why it was cool. At least season 1 with Eva Habermann. If you can't write a winning Sci-Fi using the formula of "Western noir in space" with cool gadgets & stunning visual effects then you need to break ground and do something a little (or a lot, if you're brave) off-beat. Lexx was one of these shows. Farscape was similar, but a kinda watered down for the sci-fi channel version.

I like some of the work people have done making Philip K Dick novels come to the screen, most notably "Blade runner", however The minority report was a great adaptation to screen as well. Pay check (sic) wasn't a bad effort either.

I'd like to see someone put a few William Gibson stories to screen.

That's what OG Sci-Fi is! The genre came about around the same time 'the west was won'. 'Traditional', i.e. formulaic, Sci-Fi (stories) follows the same themes. That's precisely why writers like Wells, Huxley, Asimov (to name a few) are singled out - they didn't follow the formula.

Yep, Lexx was the most groundbreaking show in the last decade I think, it was so different. I don't enjoy it as much as classic Trek but WOW, some of Lexx was mindblowing.

Remember Johnny Mnemonic? Ohmygod that was so so bad. William Gibson done well would be very similar to the first Matrix film, frikking incredible.
