You must be planning on getting one of these (or equivalent) plans in the near future, and be saving money by not having to get a modem if you got this one. I'd rather not have it used as a book end or ornament.

    Let me know

They are good routers -- that's the one I've got at home. Good range, good level of security options. The only problem I've ever had with it was with a large number of wireless clients sending/receiving a lot of traffic caused it to flake out and drop packets, but a reset fixed that and I haven't had that problem since.

I'll take it. It runs linux. If nothing else, I can play nethack via telnet. That'll impress all the pretty girls @_@

I have one of these. Used to work fine when I lived in Naenae (Paradise), now in Tawa (Xtra) I have to keep resetting the wireless connection via the quicklink in the bottom right hand toolbar.
I'm running WPA encryption. Does anybody know why this would be happening?
Some days it runs fine, other days it needs reseeting every few minutes.
Glad I have another computer in the house with hardwired ethernet or the lappy would be broken by now.

Are you resetting the wireless connection (i.e. your end of things), or the wireless router? It sounds like you're just resetting the wireless connection, which would appear to me that your wireless card in your laptop is doing odd things, rather than the router. Not unheard of. Not sure what the problem could be, but installing the latest drivers could help.

Of course, the issue would have to be with the Laptop wireless card. Thanks for pointing that out, It hadn't crossed my mind at all.
After researching my model of wireless card (Intel 2915ABG), I've found many similar issues from other people running similar configurations.
Sounds like the answer is to switch to a motorola manufactured wifi card from the Intel.

I have got one of those and I was having trouble with speed after changing to xtras new faster deal!
Have just wired it up tonight with a new "Ethernet?" cable so that I am not just using the radio link and it is performing faster and more steady now.
Using Skype was not very good at my end but was being received OK at the other end.
I think that should be clear enough for you IT guys to understand, I don't really have a clue but it seems better now. Cheers John.
