Just because someone rides to commute does make them any less of a biker. all that matters is that they are on two wheels, i waved to a girl riding a scooter the other day ... she had a cute pink jacket on ... LOL.

Lets leave the elitist bullshit out of things shall we ... when you can ride like Rossi, then you can start being a snob... LOL

    Another wave thread

I went for a nice ride to Rotorua today. I was following a friend and his wife who was riding their Goldwing. I noticed that cruiser style bikes only waved to him while sport bikes only seemed to wave to me. When we stopped for lunch I asked them about it. She said they (other cruiser bikes) dont wave often but they know style when they see it,...followed by the comment 'have you ever tried to push a wheelbarrow with one arm?"

By the way..I saw quite a number of people riding between Te Puke and Rotorua today I hope no one got snapped by the speedcamera on 3 mile hill.

Yeah, I always wave or nod (or sneeze in my helmet........) cruiser riders often don't wave back. I guess they think they are superior riding heavy bikes that aren't anywhere near as fast as sports bikes. Come on ppl give us a wave, buy me a coffee, be friendly cause the cages out there sure as hell ain't!!

    Thumbs up

EVERY rider i came across today waved back to me, no exceptions.
Some waves/nods/etc were easier to see than others, but 100% aint bad eh!
Prolly saw 40ish bikes out there between Taupo --> New Plymouth and back.
One guy even pulled me a small wheelie! (i counted that as a a wave...)

I love being waved at It makes me happy all day hahaha.

One of the nicest ones I had, was the first night I rode to work, I'd finished work and was trying to kick my bike into life, really struggling. This guy on a BMW thumper adventure bike rode past, and while he was waiting at the lights waved and asked me if I needed any help... I said `nah', he said `good luck' and rode off when the lights changed (I eventually bump started lol).

Anyway, my bike has been broken down recently, so I've been bussing to work. I was still working one night, went to serve another table, and the guy rode past again -- somehow recognised me (even though there was no bike to be seen, and I was wearing my helmet last time), and waved again at me! I thought that was pretty cool.

If only we could recognise each other on the street somehow, and wave when we're just walking along without our bikes or gear. That would be pretty sweet -- biking is enough like a secret society already .

I don't wave to anybody because it takes me so long to get my mirrors in the right place that I am scared of bumping them. Instead I do the South Auckland style 'upwards nod'. Lots of people nod back, but some just stare. From other threads I have figured out why that may be....(GN 250, L plate, safety vest). So I'm lucky anybody waves really.... But maybe they just think I'm a nutter because I am usually smiling and laughing to myself inside my helmet. (How long does the 'new rider grin' last anyway???? no sign of it abating yet)

I still have a new rider grin after 20 years of riding :-)

Anyway, I wave, nod to all bikers I see, including those on scooters... 90% of the time they wave or nod back. The only time I don't is usually when I am doing some sort of manuvour that requires my 100% of attention or I just plain didn't see yah on the other side of the motorway...

I did around 400 k's over the weekend and didn't get a single wave back. Sportsbikes, Cruisers, Tourers, Naked's, Scooters, I even tried cars. You name it - nothing, zip, nadda.

Next time I'll take the bike. Cars suck.
