I came down to hokitika last night (love the rain) and between nelson and here I had one of the fastest and enjoyable trips I have done anywhere.

PS did you know that cruising at 16.0 18.0kmph on most straights that some bikes still do 17kms to the litre? I think the decimal points in the right place.
Had a minor engine stop (something got to wet me thinks) in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. After a little messing around got it going again thankfully.

    Yes they are.
Dunkin' Donuts is a natural habitat and ecilops migrate to this environment at any time of the year.

Saw one in St Arnaud, continued on in the Murch direction...

Also heard from a mate, he got bust by a silver Hyundai for speeding last week, along the Buller area...

Nope, unless they're literally hiding in bushes without their cars/bikes, there were none. You often can't see the ones that get you, but you can always see them as you go directly past them, and I saw none. I also know when they check my speed, and none did either.

However!!! You sneaky sneaky coppers, I swear it's because of my post, but from Christchurch to Blenheim I saw 4 or 5! That can't be a co-inky-dink

They are definetly around Queenstown as I saw 4 on Xmas Eve between Arrowton and Queenstown. But I went up to Haast today via the Crown range and Wanaka and did not see one.

The sneaky buggers will be out there somewhere

I managed to find one at the end of our street when I went to gas up on Sunday. Of course I had finished a bourbon and cola RTD about 10 minutes before (just the one so quite OK to drive) so got all paranoid when he followed me around a couple of corners ... but then he went away.

Actually, they seem to travel in packs along the major highways. Usually you'll see a patrol car or two maybe 5-10 minutes apart, then there'll be a mufti, another patrol car, another mufti. Something like that. I get the impression the idea is people will see the first car and decide that they should be safe to go a bit quicker, and the mufti's are there for those of us with luck/ sharp eyes/ quick reflexes.

As Lou says - and as I said too - it's not the ones you see that you need to worry about.

I didn't see any, and I spent a decent amount of time running around doing chores and stuff.

And I tweeked my screen and the helmet buffeting that kicks in at 90k/h vanished and I found myself doing er.. well over the speed limit down the motorway. I think I'm well due for a ticket for that :-(

To think they had a major blitz at few weekends ago. Maybe they thought they had scared us and shipped them off to the North island.

I counted 12 plus 3 vans on the way to and from Tekapo yesterday
