11 bikes turned up at Ashurst, so good turn out well done. One off unfortunately, I hope he's ok. Wont go into details but needless to say it reminded me that we should be riding a our own pace an not try and push it too hard on the road.
Stopped at Kimbolton for a natter, then on to Manaweka for fuel, Hitting Waiuru for lunch. Onwards towards Ohakune turning onto Feilds track, Wanganui then back home.
Great bunch of folk. Thanks for the company today people. Looking fwd to the next ride together.
damn good ride. Pleased I went in the end. Good turn out in Ashhurst. There was 11 bikes of all shapes and sizes show up.
Headed up pongonia valley for a quite ride. Kept things pretty tame. The gsxr6's (2 exactly the same) went out to scout the road. Through to Apiti then Kimbolton for a coffee. Good chat in Kimbolton and a couple turned for home. the rest of us headed up the mangawekas till Dunts brother showed us how to ride cross country style over a bank. 2006 and no bins on the ashhurst rides and we made it 6 days into 2007. He was realitivity ok but required some thought and help of a 4wd to recover bike from bottom of bank. Into Managweka for a rest and half the crew headed back with the bruised and sore rider. That left Bonez (cant get rid of the guy) 86gsxr + CJ (pillion) Meanie, Glenn, Glenns mate (forgot your name) and Myself to head out valley road and back to taihape. Up to Waioru for more coffee and chatting. Then up to Feilds track. The highlight of the trip really. The first half was rough. Really rough. glenn managed to do his impresionation of a beekeeper on the move but if your gonna make honey you need more than one. Dropped off his buzzy pillion and stopped mid fields track in a secluded area which was nice. More talking (you would think we were woman the ammount of chatting we get up to) and then the rest of fields track. Fantastic run down onto the paraparas and into Wanganui. Dropped Glenn and his mate round at Glenns place and being as there was painting to do and the 5 of us are allergic to manual labour 86gsxr, CJ, Meanie, Bonez and myself were off again. CJ traded the pillion seat of the GSXR for the comfort of the meanstreak and we were back through Marton and over Halcome Hill to Feilding. Pace picked up a bit so that was fun. Said goodbyes in Feilding and home. Just under 400km. Fantanstic days riding. Pity about the bin. No one likes to see a rider go down but lets hope he learnt something and he is ok. Bring on the next one.
Couple more pics. Didn't do the Napier/Taihape rd as the CX was used as a pack horse for other folks gear.
some real nice photos there bonez. Where is the one of 86gsxr,CJ and meanie on the run taken?
On one of the Pahongina valley straights. Quite surprised they came out as good as they did myself.
Was impressed how well that GSX250 went. Certainly proved itself quite capable. Certainly don't deserve the shit folk give them here. That lady we met at Waiuru on the yellow GS500, with Givi fairing, was a bit of a hardcase too. Nice meeting you whoever you where.
Oh and thanks to Mr Wippy for not being able to get your truck started.
Looks like a great ride. Took mum to lunch today so couldnt make it, but will keep and eye on the thread, and if a grey old c*nt and his missus are welcome we may tag along next time.
David must play fair with the other kids, even the idiots.
What an awesome ride considering i wasnt gonna go either
Shame about the bin but he was very lucky to walk away from it and sounds like he is ok
Once again the meanie ran like clockwork and proved to me i made the right decision when i brought her
Thanks again everyone for a great day and some exceptional company![]()
