    Lap times at Taupo

Just to bring us bike guys and girls back to reality ..... have you seen that Craig Shirrifs did a blistering 1 min 37 sec lap at the last round of the vic series which i thought was very fast.
Then these cheeky buggas in the A1 cars come with 500 HP and do a 1 min 15 sec at the first time out there .
Shit those things are fast .
Its got to be good for the track reputation too so lets hope it all goes well this weekend and we get to keep the next 2 yrs deal and beyond.

No doubt the A1's would be heaps faster. What would be interesting is the time a really good Gocart could do around there. The long back straight would stuff it up but I'd bet thered be nothing faster through the infield.

I think you might find that the time for Craig Sherriffs was when they still had the old hairpin in the track which adds heaps.

A reckon a RS250 Honda powered go kart would be fast through there, especially when a go kart is designed for corner speed and give it a fast engine for thestraight youl be set

One of those `superkarts' would do h'ok, I'd say. Saw Ralph Schumacher in a superkart -- full aero, 500cc motorcycle engine... gah. Was giving a (very, very old) F1 car a run for its money around Nordschleife.

There's nothing wrong with four wheels, at least from a motorsport point of view.

Just watching A1 on TV. Taupo looks like shit. Narrow, bumpy, and dirty.

I can't believe that Taupo is the best we can do.

    What an embarrassment.

Just wait for the Waipawa round then...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Just been watching A1 Qualifiying, some of them are getting awfully close to THE WALL ( the point we have all talked about)coming off that last turn onto start/finish straight. Think the French man would have had to change his undies, to bloody close for my liking. We will wait and see, tomorrow?

Yeah, must say it did look pretty bloody bumpy. When they interviewed the drivers they all rated the track, but then I suspect they might be instructed to say they love it. Some parts do seem bloody tight for that class of car, they're probably not even carrying enough corner speed to generate down force.

Don't forget the recent patches of repairs...
I guess the host nations circuit has to resemble the country's roads...........

They had the previous round on telly from South Africa. That was supposed to be a tight track, but compared to Taupo WOW!

Taupo is is a billiard table compared to the road circuit round in China. The original hairpin there was so tight none of the A1 cars could get around it so they had to end up making it bigger.
No motor racing circuit in this country makes money (the country is way too small and the small amount of investment we have is spread out over too many tracks (talk to the track managers and do the numbers) consequently budgetary restrictions place a huge part in track development.
This is basically a brand new track and MIT are well aware of of the problems and are realistic enough to know that these are almost an inevitability on a project this size. Give them time guys.
Oh yeah, I'm a bit biased..........

If you are going to put yourself out there on the International scene, do a proper job or forget it. A1GP won't come back to NZ after this.

The cars are locking up at the entry to turn 9 because of the bumps and falling off.

Cars enter corners at a greater speed than bikes and they brake far later. It really is nasty to watch.
