Muwahahaah!!! Once you start, you can't stop! I've been an avid builder of little scale models for donkey's years now! I just know if I got started building bike models I'd end up with enough to start my own floorshow. Tanks, planes, little soldier men....

Must...resist...temptation...(too late, a mate of mine has just offered me his R1 kit to finish off since hes had it for a year and hasn't finished it yet...aieee!)

Sounds like you are building up a nice little modelling tool kit! So you going to acquire needle files, modelling putty, dremel tool, cutting mat...oh the list goes on!

Good on ya fer expanding your love for biking into smaller realms...so when does the mini-moto begin?

lol yeah... I love building them... I actually built a Virgao first when I first got to NZ and didn't work or study... have no idea where its gone, but earlier this year I started building them again...

I don't build any of the other models though... Just the bikes... I brought my cousin a plane (jet??) for christmas with all the coloured paints and shit that he needs to build it... thought it would be great cause he wants to be a pilot... but he hasn't even started it... last time I saw it he said he might give it back to me to build for him... but I'm not into planes... or cars or boats... just the little motoMaBikles for me!

The guy at the model shop asked me if I wanted to take my bikes in to put in his display cabinet for a while... but I said no... cause I know all the little things I screwed up on each bike lol
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

I've got this one half built and sitting in the wardrobe...I must pull it out and finish it.

The most detailed part on this so far has been the chain...three different colours and it's tiny.

    Motorcyle Modelling tips

Have a look here, lots of tips if you really want to go to town. I've built the Tamiya Blackbird, and I've got a Ducati 916 to start on some time. As far as plastic kits go, I mostly build aircraft, and something different every now and then for a change, such as tanks, cars, ships, bikes. Although mostly I build RC planes and have an RC yacht on the go at moment. I've been making models since I was 8, I just wish I could find some more spare time to put into the hobby. I'm surprised, to see how many modellers are on here.

okay... i MAAAY think of getting a mustang one as you suggested... but a good one costs too much.. and i wouldnt want the silly little kits my bros used to get because they always came out looking weird.. (that may have just been my bros but still) the conflict... getting my restricted and a real car.. or getting a mustang model... OH THE AGONY!

Wow... you guys have put alot of time into them!! I was looking in the tamiya catalogue in my local resene... might get rossi's yella NSR500... or a YZR or something two stroke... painting those welds in the pipes will be hard!

Yea, get Tamiya. Their kits are awesome.

And as for time, it doesn't matter. It took me like 2-3 months on and off (sometimes i didn't touch the model for over a week) to make that CB750F, it's not a race. You just do it when you feel like it.

The motogp racers etc are like $50-$60. Some of the older ones made in the 80s are good way to start off, abit cheaper, so you don't feel so bad if you cock up, but the detail is still very good (that CB750F is from '81 I think?)

The Protar 1/9 th scale models were awesome - the MV Augusta 350/3 I made even had a little crankshaft and pistons in it!
The Honda 250/6 and Yamaha 250 V4 were great models as well - I don't know if they are still available - probably still are on Ebay. I bought mine back in the early 70's

I have just stumbled accross this thread,I have a good sized collection, much to my wifes digust,I have 93 model bikes in our lounge, they have there own purpose built display cabinet
I started with the little ones you could get from the wharehouse, moved on to
Minichamps metal models, the details are outrageous, steering dampers with slides that work,I have 14 of them, ranging from a Barry Sheene RG500,to Rossis white anniversary M1,most of them are Moto GP or 500cc GP bikes
    The best,or most favourite is my Britten,its a kitset,made of pewter,painted & assembled,very cool
