All on for today folks! Meet at shell westgate at the end of the Northwestern as usual.

Just a note: There appears to be a slight spill of diesel around the back of the shell station, so take care if you come around that corner today.

    -----------------------

I would like everyones thoughts on a spanner night? It has been mentioned a few times already, but it will take a little organising. Seeing as we are losing light and good weather, it makes sense to adapt to the changing conditions.

    * What aspects of bike maintanence would you like to be covered?
    * How 'in-depth' would you like it to be?
    * Do you have a bike that is due a service that we could use to demonstrate on?

You can demonstrate on mine its always in need of some tlc.

I want to see how to clean and oil chain PROPERLY (i do it myself but never seen anyone else do it so want to know if i;m doing it right) how to bleed breaks (front and rear) properly. How to grease suspension (if necessary) how to lube clutch cable, chain tension, oiling your air filter (if necessary and how often to do it) maybe an oil change.
I have done most of these things myself before but I really don't know if i'm doing them right. Maybe a fork seal change (i've already seen one done now, but good for others to know) ummm i'll post some more when I can think.

Yes I think the chain cleaning and lubing is of high importance.

Also how to wash and polish a bike properly, what to use to get surface rust off and the shortcuts to cleaning rather than using the old tooth brush methods!!

Maybe consider breaking down lessons, during the daylight have practial and when it gets too dark have theory?

Also a few other things in the spanners night to consider...

    - tire pressures
    - how to adjust a chain
    - what to look for if you discover an oil leak from somewhere
    - what to do if you get a puncutre/or a split valve
    - how to clean and look after your biker gear
    - basics to maintain a bikes engine
    - suspension
    - things you should always carry under the seat

Aww the list can go on....
My bass is such a slapper.......I cant stop fingering those strings

Any idea where the spot is tonight - car park or roundy roundy bout?

I have some stuff I need to take over the bridge so if its the other can bring it with me (soft toys and a sive).

*maybe we should have a "what not to carry on your bike" night* lol
We childproofed our homes, but they are still getting in.

Im frustrated with myself today, I had a very minor 'minty moment' on my way to Uni...

going along gillies ave, heaps of tar snakes... gave her some throttle (bit too much) on a rather large one and the rear stepped out.. only going slow (30-40kph) ...my first reaction? *feet went out* damit. damit. damit. did not bin, but angry with myself for woosing out and my natural reaction being wrong. Then still angry with myself, I turned onto epsom ave (fairly steep hill) and gave her some throttle... front wheel goes up... boy did I crap myself... top box was overloaded (again) and steep hill + too much throttle... = ...feel like i know my bike even better after that but still kicking myself at what happend.

meh.. anyway... see you all at westgate...

Not all of the lines will translate, nor the speed, but the skills do.
If you want to see what a good corner looks like and how the bad ones look when dealt with by people who know come and marshal at the racing.

Next event is this saturday, see my other related thread, http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...017#post981017

As stated not recommended you get out and try and emulate everything you see but you will see direct steerers, counter steerers, throttle on, throttle off and have a better understanding of what these things make the bike do.

    Blah

Big thanks to BIG DOG and KITTYHAWK for taking this weeks session!

    Much appreciated

There was some experience gained all round this evening, great stuff!!!

Just a reminder folks - we're advocating safety here and would be good to see 'all the gear all the time' being seen. (I have had several people approach me, concerned about the minority that insist on overlooking this)

...knuts has not posted on here yet??? I hope he didnt end up in Hamilton after my travel directions

...managed to send another guy (sorry I forgot your name) left at the lights... instead of right for the gas station... ....yeah... sorry about that... I did legg-it around to look for you when I found out from the others....! ! !

last seen looking at a map a few miles from bay of plenty

I think we all need to pitch in and buy Disco Dan a map and Kittyhawk a bib (she was drooling a bit last night) and maybe a beckon or bungie cord for her cellphone
We childproofed our homes, but they are still getting in.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE, HEAR YE. LET IT BE KNOWNE TO THE WORLDE THAT DISCO DAN DID GIVE CORRECTE DIRECTIONS TO A NEWBIE (NAMELY ME) AND I GOT HOME SAFELY AND DID NOT END UP IN HAMILTON FOR A HAMBURGER. My thanks to the mentors last night, learned a few things about the limitations and capabilities of my ride and myself. Also thanks to the gentleman who shouted the chips afterwards.
