i have no doubt that once it gets within range of manawatu it will travel south to picton PDQ,on the way up it got from welly to bulls through 9 tags in 13 days( thats 18 people) so no pissing about down this end

That's because the lower northerners are closely related to our southeren riders or the southerens moved to the north land but found it's best to be close to home. The get up and go people:whistle:.;)

I wanted to get it further north but I've buggered my shoulder, it got a bit painful riding so had to stop way short of my original destination.Tagged, LOL. And now for me next trick Norf Tag (see http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/103878-Tag-o-rama?p=1129597371#post1129597371 ) and NZ Tag is the same, LOL.

Ya just had ta get the tag past the slack Dorklands:bleh: I nearly went down to Corro to pick the tag up from there:devil2:
Bit gutted really because I can't get a pic of the Light House behind "Bagheera" (well not without some Maori DOC worker having ago at me), so sorry Dudes & Dudettes this is as close as I can get now (have 4year old pic's of "Roxanne" with the light house). Was a 520km round trip from home and back for "Bagheera" & me (we loved every minute of it:msn-wink:).
Now all it will take is someone ta pick the tag up at Cape Reinga, LOL:devil2:

I know it doesn't snow up here, but despite what some people think it is not exactly great riding weather up here in winter ether. Easter can be quite miserable here and I have had better Weather in South Is riding down there then. As I said, Chill, it will get to ya when it gets to ya.

I thought about posting the same pic for the new tag in both games, but decided it might get confusing :)

I also (yesterday) contemplated a trip over the ditch, but couldn't justify ~$200 for the round trip (not to mention about 8 hours of my time ...) I might consider that later, if it's coming back up at a suitable time, and I can fit in a bit more of a trip down south.

Well actually someone sailed on the Arahura on Sunday but had no way of downloading from their camera. Maybe have another go if it comes closer again. technically speakin' , doesn't the tag have to be 'picked up' in wellington (bmwst?'s pic) and then deposited (new pic) on the other side?

the important thing is 'first to post' gets the tag so although he's got lindale and the ferry it's 'missed the boat'

See the first post of the thread. To make it easier to get it across the strait, the 'location' can be 'in front of the ferry' (with the name visible), so that it can be replicated on the other side.

you lost me...the tag wasnt posted till monday evening so you cant claim it on sunday before it was already posted.....

ahh i see you got the nikau reserve one.You shoulda posted that up as soon as you got it,then you can post the next one later.

Of course the tag can cross the strait in the normal way,as in the attempt made by Vgygrwr ie the tag is picked up before the ferry crossing posted up,and the new tag is posted up from the other island after the ferry crossing

Hey guys, sorry I didn't spell it out, I was fully aware at 3pm when I first got to a computer that would take a SD card that the tag had gone, if I carried a laptop or a clever phone I could have claimed it but I don't so I didn't. Just picked the TDM up from Auckland and was riding back to Christchurch great 2 day ride with a few scenic detours. Thought I would post anyway. In the Canterbury tag no one seems to mind the odd post that shows you missed out and it seemed to fit as a reply to the post immediately before. As I said maybe I will get another chance as it comes South.

No problems mate, i like to see that people are interested in the game.Personally I wouldnt mind if people make a claim on a tag before they go for it as in this game it could a LONG ride only to miss out.If you take your normal camera cord with you a lot of libraries have internet facilities. It pays to have the old method of attaching pics though rather than the new method

And so the game moves on rather than stalling again
In what way am I wrong

I don't think you are. I don't think there's even anything stopping you (or someone else) picking it up at the Wellington ferry terminal and taking it wherever ... a few mainlanders might get a little grumpy at that though :)

Actually, it presumably doesn't have to be the interislander, either - I figure it would be perfectly reasonable to place it at an airport, with a particular plane in view (registration/call sign visible) for someone else to pick up wherever it goes - a few more choices than with the single-route ferry :) Or any other ship, though preferably not one that only goes international ..

Any other thoughts on that? Not that I'm suggesting it moves away from the interislander this time.

i was PM ed by ST Jim saying he was on his way down south. For the sake of a few days why not,It has sat in some locations for weeks so whats a few days.I would suggest that it may not have moved before the weekend anyway. But as rwh says any one may grab it and move it where ever, but that would be bad form in my opinion.ST Jim has asked.Surley we are not in such a hurry we cant wait a few days.Or am i living in my own little dream world?

i guess not but the original rules were written round the cook strait ferries.it was challenging enoough to get the origianl pic of the bluebridge ferry, and the pic of the Arahura was from a spot that i would have been challenged i am sure but as the ferry was about to leave the place was almost deserted.i like your thinkin richard but i think getting a picture of an air plane with call sign visible from the public area of an airport might be even more challenging.still it adds to the interest of the game in future. That gives me an idea for next time actually.

As far as it goes the tag is now in Picton awaiting pickup.

No Mr Beema
Where not in a hurry at all
but in all fairness to the mainlanders who are sitting there not claiming it as a favour, the tag sat for a week within 50 miles of ST Jim. Surely he could of played with it then.

It just seems in this paticular game there are arrangements being made behind the scenes all the time.
When I took it to foxton, I was then told it should have gone to the wairappa, when it came down to Otaki, it was supposed to be picked up by a 4 man team, now it arrives in Picton, its supposed to be picked up by a hamilton man cos he asked first.
Its all these extra arrangements that made me leave it alone when it sat under my nose for a day in the weekend.

I hope like hell that the welly game doesnt go this way or I'll be leaving that alone as well

The whole idea of the game is first-in, first-served. Thats why it's fun. Better take them pics and post them quick before someone else does!

No crying please. Shoot pic, post tag. Done. Nuff sed.

i agree with both of you but I feel that this game is a bit different to a local tag game.Sometimes there are big distances involved so i think that some expressions of interest are fair enough.Say i decide i was gonna get the tag form hampton downs,i would prolly make some sort of call on it,cos i would then hate to get up there and miss it cos someone local grab it. In this case ST jIm has made a call and its all above board. No harm done surely,And i reiterate it has sat for up to about 20 days before.
Anyway as with the Welly game i am not gonna make rulles to cover every eventuailty. From now on if you wanna make a call on a tag do it publicy but its not binding.Anyone contemplating grabbing a tag with a call on it at least contact the caller by PM to save him/her a 300 km wasted trip!
Thats my view on it,this is not a rule just a idea how the game can be played to encourage the tag being moved over some empty spaces. If there is a danger of going on a mission and missing out there will perhaps be a reluctance to make the missions.I beleive the game started proper with a couple of public planning posts.

Fair enuff Paul, however I am not a call maker.
Personally, I feel the first to post is the winner, not the first to post up " I'm off to get this "
We all know that " locked and loaded " doesnt mean squat other than the author has worked out where it is and will pick it up if its still available when he gets there. :)

It's a game to get the tag. Some you get, some you don't. Any of the tags I have taken I shot home pronto to post, and that's the way of it. A 300km bike trip is never a wasted trip. You're not "doing the tag a favour", you are competing in a sport.

Stop crying. Harden up and go play the game, you wooss.

I think I may have gone a bit over the top with my rant last night and for that I apologise to anyone whose feelings I hurt.
I still believe the points I made were valid, however I could have been a little more subtle in the way I expressed them.
Sorry if I pissed you off, I'll now take some more nice pills and sit back and mind my own.:)

This could be in Bluff within two weeks! We have the Babes on Bikes meeting in Methven on 20th March. Are there any Babes around the tag that can bring it towards Methven and I can take it home?! (Or drop it for others along the way). Then I can get someone to send it on it's way back up before Winter just like BMWST would like - head north for winter! (Wish we could all do that!) Whatdoya reckon?

What's the road like thru there; thinking about going thru there or Molesworth station late next week on my bandit 1200 - I'm proficient at riding on gravel, but I don't know if its a suitable track/road for a big road bike, or if 230k limit for petrol is ok?
Apparently it's only open to the public from 1 December to the first week in March? is that a problem?

From memory its 210km from hanmer to blenhiem (used 9.2L of my 9.5L tank) through molesworth station (different to rainbow), maybe less if you take taylors pass. Open 28 Dec to 1 April, but you can always give doc a ring to check +64 3 572 9100. Not sure about bandit suitability, somebody else might be able to comment. My DR250 was fine:yes:. A couple of small fords that would have steepish entries for a bandit.

Found it on the ferry Picture of then inside on the car deck Had a huge problem trying to get a shot of the ferry at abnout 5.30 am this morning. Would have be perfect if it was daylight. The best pick is on inside taken after the bikes were untied You will have to take my word for that it was the Arhura. it was also the Arhura that i tried to photograph this morning. The Rainbow is quite smooth at the moment. No issues at all on a road bike.
110km from the servo at St Arnaud to the servo at Hanmer (open 7:30am).
100km from St Arnaud to Nelson.
340 odd km from Nelson to Hanmer via Taylors Pass and the Molesworth.

I'm baaaack, almost tempted to go back out and do another 104 k's to make it an even 1000 for the day :D Shithouse ride over the Whangamoas this morning in the dark and rain, and some turkey deciding to turn right into a driveway as I was overtaking, in a 100k zone, I swear if I'd had more tread on my rear tyre I wouldn't be here.
Don't worry I didn't go through the rainbow. so the new tag isn't on gravel. Smokey you should be o.k. in the Molesworth if you don't mind gravel, just take it easy if it's been graded. all the river crossings are bridged from memory, except the small ford, middle of isolated flat. Rainbow has a couple of lumpy bits just before Hells gate, I can only think of 2 fords that may give issues, ones a small one just north of the waiau/wairau river andthe other is on the St Arnaud side of the toll gate, neither are deep. I may be going through them both next w/end.
BAck on topic........ c'mon STJim :wait:
