The freedom to find, face up to and enjoy individual challenges is tempered by responsibility. Anyone who does these things must be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others - the tourist who goes walking with suitable clothing, the climber who doesn't check the weather and the fisherman without safety equipment - these are all as stupid as Carver.
The cop who does a U-turn without checking.....
I think the judge was too soft. 1 night in jail would have made a REAL man out of Carver.

Mate - i've been out riding with you before, and riding with carver, you two are poler opposites, he gets out there ad pushes it too hard for my liking, you get out there and plod along so slowly I wonder why you even bother
I'd rather live a short life as a lion - than a long life as a snail
You have ridden once with me on a ride out towards Kawhia, and then Harbour Rd towards Waitomo.
I had ridden these roads only 1 or 2 times prior, (i'm not a Wuckatoo local, arrived here in 2005), on a poorly set up bike that afterwards ended up in a ditch due to a muppet claiming to be a race tech suspension expert. (it was repaired by RT after the accident).
I make no excuses towards being cautious on those back roads, (as YOD and Cowboyz found out the reasons later that year. Yod went down hard).
If you wish to jump on a track bike and challenge an ex sidecar racer, then feel free. You set it up and pay for it, as your mouth seems to be willing to write cheques that your budget probably can't cash.
Ride as fast as you like on the public roads dude, your family obviously couldn't care less about the loss. Maybe you think you are a lion, but I have just added you to the Twirp list.

Jeez, don't feed the trolls, eh?
He must have a very small willy if he worries about how fast you ride.
The stupid part of his comment is that Carver got into trouble doing something slowly - something that if wasn't illegal, any B grade trials rider could do...

I wasn't having a go at you, just pointing out that we all ride at differing pace, ability and for different reasons - ok. And that I think one rider shouldn't necessarily judge another riders abilities based on our own level of ability - nor do i think you know Carver very well at all, but you seem awfully keen to have a go at him, perhaps if you got to know him you may have a different opinion of him (maybe not to)

Now you're sounding exactly the same as carver, mate I don't claim to be fast on the road - show me where I ever said I was?
Due to the fact that you got so bent out of shape when I said you ride slow, tells me that you're no different to any one else including carver.
"I'm an ex sidecar racer....bla bla bla" but did you ever win anything other than when everyone else broke down or didn't turn up?

The saying doesn't work if you change it for an NZ coin; Because quarters were the shiniest of coins - the squirrels can't resist pinching them. The saying compares the small mindedness of squirrel who can't resist a shiny quarter to the small minded way you and your mate couldn't resist retaliating when I suggested Triboy rides slow??

Er - you didn't have to explain it, I am quite familiar with the saying.
However, the fact that you did explain it, and continue with your whole pseudo clever shtick says a lot about you.
As for Triboy being slow (and I have to say, he seems to get along alright from what I've seen) - your logic is flawed. Why does his speed on a motorcycle disqualify him from having an opinion on this subject, particularly as the ride in question was a slow one?

sheesh your thick dude, or can't you be bothered to read! Tell me - were you on that ride to know if it was either fast or slow?
My point in saying he rode slow was not to insult but to make the comparison of his preferred pace, my comfortable pace and Carvers pace - that although we all ride at a different pace I don't think it reflects or has any bearing on our ability to ride
I knew the road better than he did he, on that ride, on that road. Carver seems to know his limits - or at lest I hope he does

Too bloody great! And like so many I thought you have always been all piss and wind.
Now here's your next challenge. You'll need:- A purpose-made trailer which creates a ramp. A parachute. A boat.
The vehicle towing the trailer stops at the top of the harbour bridge. Lowers back end of ramp. You fly up ramp, over the edge, count three then pull the ripcord. Float down to waiting boat.
Hell's teeth. If you can arrange the ramp, I'd do the jump.

I just thought about it. You could use the ramp on any basic towie's truck. You just have to get the approach angle right. In fact the truck would hardly have to slow down.

Teehee. The prevailing SW wind says you'll need to go off the East side (North to South lanes)
or risk getting tangled on the bridge.
Cameras with good lenses. Two at Westhaven. One on the pick-up boat, one on Nothcote Point (East side). At least one on the truck/ramp unit to record the look on following drivers faces. One helmet cam.
Looking for crew? I'm in. :--))
Be great if you could think up a way to detonate the bike on it's flight down. A barbque lighter in the fuel tank, coupled to a simple timer should do the trick....fuel cap has to be off.

it is a lot of work, how high is the drop?
caseye
29th June 2010, 22:06
120 feet at high tide from surface of water to under side of lowest point at the centre of the bridge. For some it's a long way down for others it's the last drop.
So if you add approximately 3 stories of superstructure and road surface anfd then the height of the ramp you'd be leaving at an approx altitude of about 160 feet.
