Great ride last night. Excellent turn out as always. I personally had the best run over the hill that I have in a long time. Perhaps 7 days of riding in the South Island got me into the swing of things but pegs were scraping and I stuck with it. Had a great time! Thanks all for another good night - looking forward to next week already :)

Think you've defo reached the limits of the bike, time for a sports bike. or adopt a dirt tracker style boot on the ground, sliding it round the corner approach

I admire the creativity mate, but what happened to those welds!!

Enjoyed the ride.. took me a wee while to warm up though. Yes... good laughs at the pub you funny buggas! It was a few degrees warmer on the otherside of the summit and dry roads. Twas lovely.

I went to visit a mate on my way home that lives in Featherston. Coming back off a side street to the main road, there was a pile of peagravel right at the give way point of the road. Was only in first gear and didn't see it 'til I was on it. A very large load of gravel and quite deep too. Had to break to stop for intersection, as per normal, my bike went out from underneith me and there was just too much gravel to get any traction, and no road ahead to run out to. I came out of it upright, but was staionery on a good lean. Tried with all my might to pull her back up but FAIL. Bike landed on me, in an intersection, and my leg took the full weight of the bike.

Raaaaaaa - couldn't be more ready to get ride of this bike now, desperate for something lighter. A car load of kind men stopped and helped me to get back upright and on my way.

Damage: broken indicator, new scratches, bent gear shifter, confindence dented. All pretty minor, but it was a slow speed off.

Ba-hum-bug. That road was a mess and will be writing to the local council to report it. :(

I'm fine, sore leg though. But the bike is important as I really want to sell it, especially now. So, will get the repairs done and on trade me she goes. May be without a bike for a few months, but it won't be for long.

Oh Crap Sweet Pea - thats a bummer, and I know about the confidence thing. Mine still badly dented from my minor mishap. Def time for you to upgrade to a real bike. Hope your leg not too sore, prob a good thing you doing quiet stuff at home this weekend. See yah soon. xx

Bugger - glad to hear it was low speed and no major damage to you or that lovely bike.

davebullet
9th December 2010, 10:00
I've dropped 2 bikes. One on gravel and luckliy it was a 250 so I used my body as a cushion (and no injuries). The 2nd was the SV650 at the cold kiwi - that was on dirt but had frame sliders fitted so they took it - again no damage.

That's why I have frame sliders on the Speed Triple. I highly recommend them if you can find some to fit your bike. If I have a high speed off, they'll probably do more damage than without, as if they catch on anything, they'll break the frame mounts = bike written off. However a low speed over or wind gust fall over - will save a bit of the damage.

Would just like to point out that my eventful night was on my own, well after the ride finished and not from stupidity, but circumstances that were at the time beyond my control. Nothing to do with the ride - the ride was bloody lovely, and a very gentle cruise.

He got a steel clutch plate from a ZX6R, that had been heated on the BBQ for about 45 minutes, branded on his left arse cheek. It is particularly unpretty and blisterey looking, however that could just be a bit of the mange. Ask him to show ya on Thursday, it's well entertaining.

You probably didn't realize it but you can feel priviledged to have actually spent an evening in the company of the infamous Mikey, one of the first people ever banned proper like from KB. And him and Briar were still together at the end of that night, it's what went on a couple of months later that nailed the lid firmly onto that coffin......

thankfully there wasn't any cars coming... scary as hell 2up so took it extra slow after that...

hope every one else made it home without any incidents...

Yep came across the mufti car just past the summit on the way home.
Blue Holden with the aerial in the middle of the boot. The red and blues hidden in the back window. I hit the picks but was amazed 3 other bikes went flying past him without him doing anything. Followed him for a bit then thought better of it and pulled over (my nerves can only take so much)
I can only think that it must have been a detectives car as was in plain clothes and showed no interest where he had plenty of opportunities
Great ride anyhow :drinknsin

Normally stop there for everyone to group back up again, let the fast ones go ahead and the slower ones catch up, after all it is a ride together, sort of, hahaha

Everyone pretty much rides at their own pace, on the mtrway we all ride in a group, on the hill it gets split up a liddle so a regroup is a good thing.....

hope the slip didnt scare you, sounds like you handled it well

Yep, had problems with the battery not being charged. There is no warning of this not happening on the 675's, not even a warning light. It died on the motorway during the SPCA run. All in all this took nearly two weeks to get fixed. All good now though, they fitted a fancy new regulator thingie. Getting a little plug in box from Ecliptech in aussie which will give me warning of the battery being over or under charged via the alarm led on the dashboard. Also got some new rubber today so we're all set for the upcoming holidays. :scooter:

I joined too. Leaving Mana BP at 8.30am and then leaving Bulls at 10.30am. This plan seems to be based on arriving late at the circuit as past events have started late. This doesn't make any sense to me; so I may leave 30 minutes earlier with a cunning plan to be at the circuit by the official start time of 11.00am.

Why can't we be like Europe and just chuck a tunnel under it for the car/trucks/campers leaving the cornery goodness unspoiled for us bikers.

They did some initial costings back in 2008 and it was in the order of $800 million for a full tunnel solution so it's cheaper to take some of the kinks out of the road.

Pretty bloody cheap compared to Sandhills/transmission gully highway or the Orewa holiday highway.

And taking out 3 corners on the Taka's at a cost of 10's of millions is not even close to a partial solution for that road period!

Why don't we follow the same idea as the Eurotunnel and run a train back and forth which takes cars, trucks and campers through the train tunnel?
Drive you car onto the train, remain seated in the car, 15 minutes later you're on the other side and drive off.
Leaves the hill for motorcycles only

mmmm... was thinking of a wee ride myself - but my dogs escaped today when i left the property - it seems I haven't done a good enough job with the fencing, so will need to stay here and keep going. When I leave, they try to follow. Oh its nice to be so loved.

They can be cunning little buggars eh.
Our youngest dog has learned he can climb a 1.5 mtr gate (he could jump it too if he really wanted too, he nearly clears the 1.8 mtr fence between us and the neighbours to get to their dog). So I had to put a backwards overhang on the gate so he can't climb up it.
The oldest dog leans with all her weight on fences to see if she can force a hole big enough to escape from.

But am I riding this weekend? Not sure yet. Might go to the 4x4 trials in Whitemans Valley tomorrow.

If you are qucik - some chocolate bikkies too - but that depends how the night goes.
